Job Purpose: Crux Subsurface, Inc., a specialty contractor contracted by SDG&E to provide engineering, procurement and construction on the CNF Power Line Replacement Project, is seeking an Aviation Dispatcher for our El Cajon / Alpine, CA operation. The Aviation Dispatcher acts as the location dispatcher. The position requires scheduling, crew briefing, direction and monitoring of daily flight activities. Candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills. Positive interaction between contractors, subcontractors and project owner is required. This person must evaluate project flight plans, landing zones, fly yards and daily project activities related to helicopter operations and associated construction activities. Position requires aviation dispatch of helicopter for safety and project compliance. Interactive loading and collection of GPS information with laptop computer and daily reporting. The Aviation Dispatcher reports to the Aviation Coordinator.

Duties:

  • Prepare and submit daily forms: Flight Operations Forecast, Pre-Operations Plan, and Daily Progress Report. Have pilots sign the Pre-Operations Plan at the following morning's tailboard.
  • Attend mass (construction) tailboard.
  • Ensure vehicles and LZs are equipped with required fire tools.
  • Observe weather conditions at work sites and enroute, relay to pilots when appropriate.
  • Understand and relay conformance to environmental rules.
  • Upload next day GPS environmental / avian restrictions received from SDG&E. Coordinate with Helicopter Safety Manager and contract environmental staff to ensure the most up to date locations have been received.
  • Obtain project maps and Google Earth files for each segment. Ensure updated maps have been uploaded to aircraft GPS, depicting all LZs, operating areas, and other significant restrictions.
  • Initiate morning Pilot tailboard meetings. (There will be various yards. AC will initiate the morning pilot aviation meeting to relay the pre-operations plan to include daily schedule and any changes, weather forecast, then collect/screen load calc and FRAT's for completeness and accuracy. Maintain all completed forms for the duration of the project). Notify pilots of tailboard time and location the evening prior.
  • Ensure all aviation personnel have attended Environmental and AOM training prior to entering job site and that any aviation project guest is escorted (check in/check out procedures).
  • Ensure all helicopters have tracking devices, and they are charged and being used.
  • Coordinate with ASD / know the number of aircraft and locations for daily flight operations to coordinate aircraft separation / situational awareness.
  • Organize pilot and ground crew safety meetings (once weekly). Gather feedback and solution advice. Report to Helicopter safety manager.
  • Coordinate and interact with the Helicopter Safety Manager and Aviation Coordinator on all aviation matters.
  • Interact with contractor, subcontractors and owner on aviation requests for daily schedules. Speak with each lead for helicopter daily needs and assignments.
  • Ensure CAP Analysis has been performed for each work area before operations commence for all helicopter operators.
  • Notify Helicopter Safety of any new CAP requirements and ensure CAPS are approved prior to work area start. Determine and document LZ layout and flight paths to be submitted during the approval process.
  • Ensure road crossings, traffic control, road closures, rolling stops with regard to helicopter long line flight operations are in place prior to helicopter operations.
  • Coordinate with external aircraft operators (Border Patrol, CDF, adjacent airfields, etc.) when there is any potential for operations to conflict.
  • Ensure all employees are issued and utilizing required PPE on job site.
  • Collect daily flight times and submit daily progress report of flight activity.
  • Understand project flight operations and restrictions.
  • Debrief pilots/Aviation Coordinator and relay next day project assignments.
  • Ensure all helicopters are equipped with proper radios and radio frequencies and communication is clear
  • Report to Aviation Coordinator all flight and ground activities.
  • Other associated project duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Skills/Requirements:

  • 2 yrs. experience in the aviation industry required.
  • Knowledge and experience with FAA regulations.
  • Basic laptop computer skills; word, excel, pdf.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with helicopter operations preferred
  • Must be highly motivated and proactive
  • Zero tolerance drug free company
