Position Professional Engineer - Roadway/Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)  

Alliant Engineering, Inc., is seeking a Roadway Engineer with significant experience developing construction phasing and maintenance of traffic plans (MOT) to join our transportation team in our Minneapolis, Minnesota office. This role will work in conjunction with the Project Managers, peer Engineers and CADD team members to coordinate the MOT design with other project disciplines to meet deadlines for projects throughout Minnesota and other regions as needed.

We are looking for someone with a good understanding of transportation engineering of freeways and highways, including interchanges, along with arterial roadways. Specifically, a focus on maintaining traffic in conformance with project technical requirements. Experience with all facets of transportation project design, including roadway modeling, drainage, traffic and utility design is desired. Experience with Design Build is preferred.


  • Be part of a cohesive project team that develops construction staging and MOT plans on large traditional or alternative delivery projects.
  • Utilize your roadway design experience to develop temporary roadway plans, including roadway models, alignments, profiles, geometrics and drainage.
  • Utilize your traffic design experience to develop traffic control plans, including temporary signing, striping and safety devices.
  • Work with contractors and owners to develop innovative approaches to construction staging.
  • Lead junior staff and promote the growth of their technical skills.
  • Apply roadway design and traffic control standards.

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • 4-8 years as a Transportation Engineer and Roadway Design Engineer
  • Experienced manager and mentor to staff
  • Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering including MicroStation and GEOPAK
