Position Overview

This position will be responsible for designing the interface of customer specified equipment into the Proterra bus system. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of design during a customer project from requirements review, system integration, schematic drafting, harness design and release of Bills of Material for the final product. This position will provide a candidate with the opportunity to demonstrate strong engineering rigor while providing immediate value add for customer projects. The candidate will join a team of talented engineers supporting electrical engineering designs as part of the Electrical Engineering team located in City of Industry (Los Angeles), CA.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Designs engineering solutions based on established engineering and quality principles and in accordance with Proterra best practices and guidelines.
  • Designs electrical interface between the vehicle and customer specific systems. These systems may include Intelligent Transportation Systems, radio communication, surveillance systems, passenger detection, passenger infotainment, Wi-Fi and others.
  • Develops and implements test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of form/fit/function, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability and system power consumption.
  • Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution
  • Review design output with customers and support customer acceptance inspections as it relates to electrical designs.
  • Interface with mechanical and Interiors team members to develop a fully integrated electrical system for customer specific configurations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • An experienced professional with a full understanding of electrical integration; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at all management levels.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years’ working experience as an electrical engineer
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience developing electrical schematics and wiring systems.
  • Progressive electrical engineering experience in high and low voltage power distribution within the transportation industry is a plus
  • Experience with Schematic and Harness design software – specific experience with Mentor Graphics Vesys is a plus
