Position Overview

Develop comprehensive program strategy and deploy processes for Quality, which include Factory Quality, Supplier Quality & Development, and Customer Quality. Partner with other functional leaders in driving innovation, continuous improvement, and risk management.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities (*identifies Essential Functions)

  • Develop, deploy and execute quality policies, objectives and plans that align and support the corporate strategic business goals.
  • Creates long-range quality plans for the organization focusing on the effective development of new systems to ensure life-cycle management of products.
  • Interact effectively and transparently with functional heads within Proterra (Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Project Management, Business Development, Finance, etc.). Establishes key relationships with strategic customer partners.
  • Provides strategic direction on Quality initiatives to Leadership, and drives implementation throughout the organization.
  • Identify and initiate improvements to the quality management system, ensuring compliance to all relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements. Support deployment and implementation of ISO 9000 and 14001. Monitor and audit the quality management system processes for compliance, effectiveness, and continued alignment with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure effective coordination of investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments and implementation of change control, and corrective and preventive actions to the adhered timelines as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain quality system dashboards, scorecards/key performance indicators for the quality system processes. Review and monitor trends during Management Review Meetings. Create system for feedback loops and continuous improvement.
  • Implement next generation IT platform for defect corrective actions (non-conformance reports) that cover Manufacturing NCRs, Supplier NCRs, or Field Service-Generated NCRs.
  • Continue to drive and empower build-in-quality philosophy.
  • Create strategy for supplier development and advance program to improve ongoing supplier performance.
  • Drive APQP and PPAP execution with new and existing suppliers.
  • Manage external quality and regulatory relationships. Provides leadership and guidance in the event of a recall or field action.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Solid understanding and proven leadership ability to align, motivate and empower team members
  • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, problem solving and innovation
  • Effective communication, collaboration and negotiation
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders in a complex/changing environment
  • Progressive and proven record of leadership with experience managing quality in a manufacturing company.
  • 10+ years of experience and success providing direct leadership and mentorship to a team of employees.
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), ISO & TS standards
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with APQP/PPAP, and in applying quality tools such as SPC, 8D, Root-cause analysis, etc.
  • Broad range of tooling, manufacturing process, and workmanship standards experience.
  • Experience with best-in-class manufacturing practices (Lean Manufacturing, visual management, data collection, material utilization, employee engagement, cross-training, standard work, Gage R&R, Calibration, etc.).
  • Professional approach to understand and resolve technical & non-technical issues.
  • Exceptional listening, comprehension, and presentation skills – both verbal & written. Able to build rapport and elicit positive response from others.
  • Ability to travel at short notice.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred). Advanced degree in Engineering is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years’ progressive experience in manufacturing, in the area of Quality, Supplier Quality, and/or Supplier Development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Training and Certification in tools such as Six Sigma or Shainin considered a plus.
