Description

JOB FUNCTIONS: Air Beam Integration Assembly; Wedge Welder Machine Operators; Radio Frequency Weld Machine Operators

OVERALL SUMMARY:

The primary functions of these positions are responsible for cutting out, shaping, or trimming material or articles such as canvas goods, light weight fabrics and olefin fabrics, as specified by the cutting work orders to facilitate subsequent operations and/or responsible for assisting in the performance of a variety of tasks related to fabrication, construction, modification, and testing of air beam structures.

PRIMARY AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows and adheres to verbal and written work instructions
  • Assists with the integration, re-work, and repair of fabric structures (i.e. bonding, cutting, etc.); fabrication, assembling, construction, and packaging.
  • Assists with records data and photographic documentation.
  • May assist in troubleshooting prototypes with assistance from supervisor, manager, and/or Engineering Dept.
  • Unrolls and lays out material along calibrated scale on cutting table or measures material with ruler and cuts material into lengths. Spreads fabrics or goods on cutting table in single or multiple layers prior to cutting.
  • Position pattern or template on material, marks according to the pattern or template and cuts out parts. Cuts notches or marks identification symbols on parts.
  • Shapes or trims excess material from parts.
  • Matches material for color or shade. Observes and identifies any quality discrepancies and notifies the QC inspector or supervisor.
  • Assembles and/or folds articles after cutting.
  • Positions and identifies cut parts in bundles prior to transporting to the sewing department.
  • Observes operation of the cutting equipment, spreaders and Philo tables, to detect and report to the supervisor or maintenance mechanic any malfunctions. Cleans and oils the cutting tables and all equipment in accordance with the maintenance instructions.
  • Operates production equipment such as straight knife, scissors, fabric welder, circle cutter, strip cutter and grommet setter.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Reports all accidents, violations, or infractions to the Production Supervisor and/or Production Manager.
  • May assist with the receipt, distribution, and procurement of materials.
  • Attends training courses deemed beneficial to the position including in-house and external training.
  • Supports and participates in the Quality Management Program.
  • Performs other activities, responsibilities, and related duties as required.
  • Observes workmanship at previously made parts and subassemblies to detect defects and notifies supervisor or quality control inspector
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May participate in lean/six sigma/quality/safety initiatives as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Does not supervise others

 
Position Requirements

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Use and be familiar with assembly tools, interpret visual aids and be able to perform simple shop math.
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English.
  • Ability to work from verbal, written or diagram form instructions.
  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Use of various hand tools, electrical and pneumatic tooling including, but not limited to: screwdrivers, mallets, wrenches, DC screw guns, pneumatic drills, and pneumatic rivet guns.
  • Ability to perform intricate assemblies using various fasteners including screws, nut, bolts, rivets, adhesives, etc.
  • May be required to work at more than one position or shift from one position to another during the assembly process and overtime when required.
  • Ability to continuously lift assembled parts weighing up to 65 lbs.
  • Goal oriented and team focused to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner.

ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standing 100% of time.
  • Occasional bending, squatting, and reaching
  • Lifting requirements: majority of product lines – typically up to 25-65 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
