General Summary:

Buyer-Commodity Specialist who is a problem solver and is able to multi-task with strong negotiation skills and lead cross functional teams in the evaluation, qualification, and selection of Suppliers. Develops and executes procurement programs including priced-to-win strategies, order placement and Supplier Management. Take the lead as principal negotiator on Supplier agreements including subcontractors. Performs general procurement functions for the acquisition of sheet metal, fabricated parts and materials/commodities. Must be able to read mechanical drawings and interpret engineering change orders. Contacts vendors to expedite order delivery and performs various purchasing administrative functions. Coordinates Requests for Quotes from Program Managers and serves as liaison with engineering, quality assurance and manufacturing.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop cost reduction and pricing strategies as well as cost analyses in support of business goals through the utilization of long term strategic agreements.
  • Write and evaluate RFQ bid proposal - analyze statement of work, terms, conditions and specs in compliance with ITAR
  • Oversee the bidding process for assigned area of procurement responsibility. May prepare bid packages and conduct bidder conferences. Serve as a company representative in dealings/negotiations with Suppliers to provide the best value with superior customer service.
  • Assist in the development/maintenance of metrics for the Procurement Team
  • Represent the Procurement Team at selected Program Status Meetings (PSM's) and is responsible for capturing and assisting others with action item closure.
  • Responsible for selecting and negotiating with approved Suppliers and placing purchase orders in response to manufacturing/engineering requirements.
  • Experience in buying CCA assemblies, power supplies, OEM equipment, commercial and military components.

Job Specifications:

Eight or more year's professional level experience in Procurement with high technology employers, preferably in the defense/aerospace industry, is required. An undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management or related focus is preferred. A Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification from the Institute for Supply Management is also preferred. Must have demonstrated problem-solving and project management skills and technical understanding of price and cost analysis techniques. Competencies in all major Microsoft Office products are required.
