Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Designs engineering solutions for mechanical and electrical systems based on customer requirements, established engineering & quality principles and in accordance with developmental technology practices and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, safety, reliability, system power measurements & acoustics.
  • Collaborates and communicates with management, other internal groups, customers, & vendors regarding design status, project progress, requirement clarification and issue resolution.
  • Assists manufacturing & quality in root cause analysis & issue resolution
  • Uses CAD to create parts, assemblies, & drawings
  • Writes ECO’s and assists with BOM management
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Designing complex mechanical and electrical parts and systems and associated production tooling, manufacturing and quality processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
  • Using 3D CAD software as an engineering design tool.
  • Familiar with GD&T principles
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
  • Receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Catia and/or Solidworks experience preferred
