Description

The Communications Manager will work with the Chief Marketing Officer and the Communications department to build and protect our reputation, create awareness of our programs and clinics and drive client activity at all locations.

The core elements the Communications Manager will produce monthly will include: supplying content for daily social media, consistent contact with local news media, frequent email marketing, and monthly eNewsletters, and a strong support of events and community engagements. Communication Managers will work closely with the Cohen Veterans Network for Communications and PR throughout each month for approvals, idea cultivations, etc. This position will work with Endeavors' Cohen Clinics and programs to ensure they present the organization in a brand consistent and meaningful manner.

Compensation between $55K to $65K DOE.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

News Media

Each Endeavors office is expected to cultivate relationships with key local media, keeping in touch by providing progress reports and opportunities. Each location should land 6-8 news media stories per year. All formal media outreach including press releases will need to be sent to the Chief Marketing Officer to review. Assist with media outreach including requests for coverages, developing story ideas, and training for company spokespersons.

Social Media

The Communication Manager will help provide content across platforms to Endeavors Social Media Strategist.

Email Marketing

Help grow or build an email marketing database for each location. Provide consistent communication with local contacts each month, inviting them to events and opportunities as well as summarized clinic accomplishments in a monthly or bi-monthly eNewsletter format.

Events

The Communication Manager will oversee and assist with planning and execution of employee internal and external events and programs. A good portion of local clinic content will come from a variety of program community events each month. Communication Managers are expected to support efforts of the Outreach leads in the field, producing materials, practicing talking points and attending events where possible. Additionally, they are expected to help deliver quality events. Content from these events should be shared across social media. Where possible, events should be used to interact with local media for coverage or relationship-building.

Program Support

The Communication Manager will support the Program Directors with materials for presentations and media interviews. The Communication Manager will play a lead role in any VIP visits from event planning to photo / video recaps.

Data

Data is vital in telling the story, but must be done with specific parameters to ensure data quality, public messaging consistency, and brand protection. Communication Managers will submit data that will be used publicly through the CVN Data Communications sheet. Additionally, each clinic is required to fill in monthly External Affairs KPI's in order to track performance in each area and help build the narrative around awareness and messaging across the nation.

Branded Support

Communication Managers are responsible for purchasing branded materials from outside vendors (swag, and print collateral), while maintaining graphic standards and message alignment. The Creative Manager is available for support.

Sustainment

The Communication Manager will be expected to execute on online fundraising campaigns as generated by the CVN Central office. They will be a resource for the teams who have questions about Endeavors campaigns and initiatives.

Network Connectivity

Communication Managers will attend and contribute to monthly Clinic zoom calls, held on the last Wednesday of each month. Managers are expected to share experiences, best practices and more inside the Clinic Portal. Communication Managers will also be expected to meet monthly with all Program Directors to help promote and plan.

Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field

EXPERIENCE: 4-5 years’ experience in Public Relations

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to Military Clinics and events when needed. Military affiliation preferred, but not required.

EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

WRITING:

  • Excellent writing skills and experience managing news platforms including Meltwater and sending newswires.
  • Strong knowledge of communication and marketing trends.
  • Ability to tell a story in our brand voice using existing and curated content.

DESIGN:

  • Familiarity with design programs and displays initiative, creativity, style, imagination and marketing expertise.

COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong public relations background - comfortable pitching stories to the media and partnering with community organizations.
  • Creative thinker, who is an assertive problem solver with an analytical mind.
  • Strong internal and external communication planning experience.
  • Highly collaborative and service-oriented work style.
  • Willing to learn new skills and programs, take on new tasks and help problem solve.
  • Flexible and responsive to change; able to meet deadlines.

COMPUTER:

  • Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

ORGANIZATION:

  • Ability to plan and work independently and in coordination with internal and external resources.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and independently prioritize tasks.
  • Willing to learn new skills and programs, take on new tasks and help problem solve.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant – Ability to communicate with management, staff and clients over the telephone and in person.

Constant – Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Occasional – Ability to move to different offices throughout the building.

Occasional – Ability to lift, stack, load, etc. up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoors: Office environment; normal noise conditions.
