Product Line Manager - Environmental Control Units (ECU)

About the Organization Headquartered in Solon, Ohio, HDT Global is the industry leader in engineering, designing and manufacturing leading-edge military expeditionary products, rugged industrial/commercial products, and products for medical rehabilitation. Our product lines include shelters, heaters, environmental control units (ECUs), power generators, chemical/biological/radiological/nuclear (CBRN) air filtration and collective protection systems, military vehicles, perimeter protection systems, and robotics including manipulator arms, vehicles, and healthcare solutions.

This position is responsible for managing specific products to ensure that their success is in line with the company's expectations. Product line managers work across all departments of the company to develop, maintain and execute growth playbooks that drive thought leadership and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with current and emerging customer requirements. Product forward strategies, integrated across all functional groups, market sectors and geographies are critical to success. Routine activities will require analysis of technical, financial, marketing, and sales information for the product line in conjunction with personal experience, direct customer input, and knowledge of current market changes.


  • Manages the development cycle for new products, from conceptualization to product launch
  • Provides marketing with information for promoting products and assist with the development of the marketing strategy
  • Monitors and analyzes market trends and competitors to make sure products remain competitive
  • Carries out research to determine customer needs and expectations in order to develop new products.
  • Generates and leverages customer relationships to further develop and field core products
  • Generates business cases that drive product rationalization and sunset decisions, recommend product extensions and provide product enhancement roadmaps that align with customer roadmaps, acquisition plans, and technology development roadmaps
  • Develops and executes approaches to marketing and sales in order to drive growth
  • Responsible for performing capture lead role for assigned opportunities
  • Responsible for generating market trends, consumer insights, growth opportunities, and idea generation across entire HDT Global core product families
  • Responsible for developing consumer and channel communication strategies for new product launch including overall management of content, value proposition and unified messaging throughout all datasheets, manuals, and presentations
  • Responsible for producing business statistics among which are price points, product mix sales history, and competition for product introduction
  • Promotes and manages IRAD projects that provide HDT Global with a competitive advantage
  • Verbally guides customers through product start up, configuration and fault finding
  • Provides support for the service department with fault finding
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) or the equivalent combination of education and experience


Minimum ten years of direct experience with assigned product family and targeted markets; strong understanding of ECS/ECU, thermal management; proven ability to generate sales to major Department of Defense and Homeland Security customers; experience working with major defense primes solving customer needs; experience in planning, budgeting, and developing business strategy


  • Detail oriented with excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Work environment involves overlapping projects, tight deadlines and changing priorities; periodic work required on evenings and weekends, sometimes on short notice
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong proficiency reading schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work a varied schedule and travel to US military sites (worldwide) for product training and demonstration as needed
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or similar environment
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
