Elder/Youth Healthy Relationship Mentoring Program Coordinator & Prevention/Awareness Specialist

OVERVIEW: This full-time position (40 hours/week), funded by the Office on Violence Against Women's Coordinated Response Grant, this individual will act on behalf of and in support of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe's Family Advocacy Program. This position is responsible for organizing traditional and culturally relevant activities between tribal elders and youth that will serve as an opportunity for elders to work with youth on fostering healthy relationships and reducing incidents of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and elder abuse. All events will feature an educational component focused on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and/or health relationships.

Salary Level: Range 8 $14.91/hour

Position Status: Full-Time Grant Funded

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with the Family Advocacy Program Manager and Victim Advocate to develop and implement a LEKT Public Awareness/Community Education/Violence Prevention Campaign (to include the Elder/Youth Healthy Relationship Mentoring Program);
  • Development and promotion of an elder/youth mentoring program for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe to promote healthy relationships;
  • Organizing/facilitating traditional LEKT events/activities between youth and elders (all events must feature an educational component focused on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking awareness/prevention and/or healthy relationship promotion);
  • Provide support to the Family Advocacy Program Manager and Victim Advocate in facilitating a variety of prevention and awareness activities in addition to facilitating activities independently;
  • Establish and co-facilitate a weekly Women's Talking Circle with the Family Advocacy Program Manager;
  • Attend the LGBTQ Support Group;
  • Data collection and reporting;
  • Provide progress reports to the Social Services Director;
  • Participate in training and other educational events as requested by the Social Services Director;
  • Assist with the facilitation of OVW sponsored trainings;
  • Establish and maintain elder and youth healthy relationships and connections

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High level of knowledge of Lower Elwha Klallam traditions and cultural practices
  • High level of familiarity with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal community
  • Minimum of one year experience in a related field preferably working with Native Americans, youth and elders
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking; Knowledge of prevention based campaigns and healthy relationship promotion practices
  • Commitment to the prevention of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and a commitment to promoting healthy relationships
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, clients, referral sources, the community, and volunteers from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds and with various religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations, age variance, and differing abilities.
  • Good public speaking skills for public presentations on behalf of the program and its services.
  • Must maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and reports.
  • Knowledge and experience with office skills, record keeping, and proficient in use of computers.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience and training in organizing events/activities, especially with youth and elders
  • At least one year of experience or education/training in the area of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and elder abuse and healthy relationship promotion
  • DV/SA Advocate training
  • Experience working with grant budgets
  • Associates degree or higher

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Washington State Driver's License and current valid auto insurance.
  • Must take UA prior to employment
  • Must abide the LEKT Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Must abide by the LEKT Drug Policy

As with all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe this position is Indian Preference in hiring in accordance with P.L. 93-638.
