Location HDT (Geneva, OH)  


SME within HDT, the Principal Engineer is responsible for providing guidance and oversight to multiple teams working on numerous products or developing various forms of technologies. Facilitates engineering technical reviews to reduce risk. Must think strategically and have a long-range goals in mind. Proactively leads improvement initiatives.


  • Provides guidance/direction/coaching to team of Engineers including driving technology and completion of projects on time and budget
  • Leads major problem resolution efforts
  • Provides technical guidance across HDT Engineering
  • Develops trusted engineering contacts with the customer
  • Leads the customer's technical team
  • Represents HDT at industry technical conferences
  • Provides technical expertise for new business pursuits and proposals
  • Incorporates customer requirements into planning and work
  • Designs, develops, analyzes, documents and supports testing of products, systems or subsystems
  • Directs technical activities of assigned CAD designers and technicians
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risk
  • Guides work of intern(s)
  • Provides performance feedback regarding engineers to managers
  • Proactively leads initiatives
  • Reports progress and status
  • Completes assigned tasks on time and budget while meeting technical requirements
  • Reviews customer specifications and requirements, and under direction develops designs to best support them
  • Implements design to cost and weight
  • Implements design for manufacture and assembly
  • Implements tools expected by leadership
  • Develop BOEs
  • Communicates clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned
  • Available for travel
Position Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from accredited school required; MS in Engineering or PE License preferred


  • Ten years experience minimum with at least 5 years experience managing teams; experience in HVAC component selection, testing and technical writing, a plus.


  • Works independently and professional on daily tasks
  • Possesses the ability to think strategically
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Must be able to read, speak and understand English
