Description

Astronics-PECO, located in Clackamas, Oregon, designs and manufactures highly engineered commercial aerospace interior components and systems for the aerospace industry. We specialize in Passenger Service Units (PSUs) which incorporate air handling, emergency oxygen, electrical power management and cabin lighting systems. We also manufacture a wide range of fuel access doors that meet stringent strength, fuel sealing and anti-corrosion requirements.

SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to direct and lead our continuous improvement efforts. This individual will be involved with helping to establish our continuous improvement strategy and establish a plan and completed tasks to execute that strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Includes the following duties and others as assigned.

  • Provides continuous improvement direction and leadership to employees throughout the company.
  • Provides training on general and specific lean topics as needed to increase organizational lean knowledge base.
  • Facilitates “Fix What Bugs You” stand up meetings.
  • Maintains 3S (5S) supply carts.
  • Facilitates Kaizen Events.
  • Seeks out educational materials and opportunities that benefit the organization (benchmarking, webinars, tours, literature etc.).
  • Prioritizes improvement opportunities by engaging with stakeholders throughout the company.
  • Participates on the Astronics Lean Team.
  • Provides organizational support for visual controls.
  • Communicates continuous improvement progress to the organization (i.e. progress against metrics, recent improvements, etc.)
  • Observes safety and security procedures; Actions potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains network & relationships within the local Lean community.
  • Produces (films, edits and shares) before and after improvement videos.
  • Reports consistently to work and is on time. Able to work extended hours as necessary.

This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation and this position may be responsible for the performance of various functions that may be an integral part of the Company’s overall SOX / 404 internal control structure.

Position Requirements

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below each are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability.

  • Strong knowledge base and ability to teach concepts such as: 5S, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, Spaghetti Diagram, Set-up Reduction (SMED), Line Balancing, 8 Wastes (value add / non-value add analysis), and Pull Systems.
  • Bachelor degree preferred, plus four years of related experience and/or training; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be computer proficient with a variety of software packages (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc)
  • Excel VBA, VB.Net or similar programing knowledge is a plus.
  • CAD (SolidWorks) experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma tools is a plus.
  • Established track record applying continuous improvement tools to achieve improved business results.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.
