Job Title: Purchasing Assistant

Department: Finance/Purchasing/IT

Reports To: Purchasing/Warehouse Supervisor

FLSA Status: Part Time/Temporary/Non-Exempt – 8 hours/week

Summary
The Purchasing Assistant works a full shift (8 AM to 5 PM) on the same weekday of each week. This position assists the Purchasing/Warehouse Supervisor by utilizing an ASDM vehicle to pick up materials and supplies from the surrounding Tucson area, and then unloading and delivering materials at appropriate locations within the Museum.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist the Purchasing/Warehouse Supervisor in whatever duties are required to fulfill purchasing functions.
  • Assist in inventory control and warehouse management.
  • Maintain purchasing log and assist Purchasing/Warehouse Supervisor in maintaining files and locating vendors.
  • Utilize proper loading and lifting techniques to avoid potential injury and assist in vehicle maintenance.
  • Handles money and credit cards to purchase goods.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must be available to work 8 AM to 5 PM on a consistent weekday
  • Driving experience with satisfactory driving record
  • Valid Arizona driver's license

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, payroll timekeeping systems and Word Processing software.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
