Employee Relations Generalist

The employee relations specialist is responsible for the development and administration of the employee relations program, affirmative action program and employee advocacy. This position interfaces with employees, government agencies and educational institutions.

Essential Functions

  1. Assists management with performance concerns, disciplinary action and conflict management issues.
  2. Respond to and partner with appropriate managers, to investigate internal claims of harassment, discrimination, workplace violence and other serious policy violations.
  3. Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
  4. Take statements from complainants, witnesses and accused.
  5. Administers the equal employment opportunity and affirmative action programs.
  6. Conducts exit interviews, summarizes findings, and discusses trends and concerns with senior management.
  7. Conducts performance reviews.
  8. Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with the company's standards.

Work Environment

This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to lift files and office supplies of up to 20 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position may require you to work on weekends and holidays.


Local travel to various worksites is required.

Position Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  2. Minimum of three years experience in employee relations.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to successfully complete a background check, including FBI fingerprints, criminal history and pre-employment drug test.
