The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) is a not-for-profit, independent certification organization whose primary purposes are to establish and monitor a national certification system and to identify those counselors who have voluntarily sought and obtained board certification. NBCC and Affiliates is comprised of three organizational affiliates: the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) and the NBCC Foundation (NBCC-F).

NBCC and Affiliates has operations and partnerships in 40 countries providing certification, training programs and public mental health services through institutes and residencies. Over 66,000 Board Certified Counselors serve the public and advance mental health efforts across the globe. With a portfolio of nine credentials related to professional counseling, mental health, addictions, human services, and career development, NBCC and Affiliates seeks to expand the professional capacity of counselors and human service professionals. NBCC is focused specifically on credentialing, certification and quality assurance, while CCE focuses on providing education and training opportunities and leveraging credentials to best serve communities. Additionally, CCE provides organizational management services for associations, boards, and other management clients. The NBCC Foundation engages in capacity building, seeking to expand access to mental health services in underserved and never-served communities and increase the accessibility of high-quality professional development resources for counselors.

ASSESSMENT DEPARTMENT

The Assessment Department's mission is to promote safe and effective practice by providing high quality psychometric and testing services for certification, licensure and program evaluation. Housed within the Credentialing and Quality Assurance Division, the department ensures that all assessments created at NBCC and CCE are updated regularly and maintained appropriately to meet the needs of NBCC's and CCE's credential holders, licensees and all other stakeholders.

The Item Bank Specialist is responsible for maintenance of the item bank as well as ensuring the consistency and grammatic accuracy of items and exams. The Item Bank Specialist is crucial in maintaining the security of the item bank, and the confidentiality of examination and item content.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the item bank software and provide direct support to psychometrician(s) in collecting, aggregating and reporting of examination item data.
  • Run basic data analysis such as aggregation and correlation to provide item and candidate level statistical reports.
  • Responsible for the secure download, upload, and appropriate distribution of pertinent statistics, item data, and candidate scores.
  • Assist in the development of written procedures for usage of item bank software.
  • Review, edit, and maintain examination handbooks, published information and reports to ensure that they are grammatically accurate, consistent across all examinations, and in line with test publication and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the Content Development Manager on proofreading/ editing process to maintain the accuracy of all examination items.
  • Provide high-level administrative support to the psychometrician(s)
  • Attend examination committee meetings held approximately 6 Saturdays per year.
