Development Coordinator, Foundation and Government Relations 

Description

The Development Coordinator, Foundation and Government Relations works closely with the Director, Foundation and Government Relations to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation and government donors as well as partners. The position works to help build a strong sustainable grants program for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, as well as to support the preservation and public education activities of the Margaret Herrick Library, Academy Film Archive, and related Academy Foundation programs, including Academy Gold.

The position requires a candidate with excellent writing and communication skills; a positive, collaborative, flexible, and strategic nature; and the ability to work effectively and simultaneously across multiple Academy departments. The successful candidate should have the ability to write compelling grant proposals and reports, perform prospect research, understand financial statements and budgets, maintain an accurate grants calendar, and work with a fundraising database.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Research and identify private and corporate foundation and government funders through detailed prospect research
  • Maintain a portfolio of new and renewing annual requests
  • Work with curatorial, archival, education, and programming staff, both collaboratively and independently, to help create compelling funding requests in support of exhibitions, programs, and preservation projects
  • Draft proposal narratives, letters of inquiry, and visual work samples; prepare applications for submission
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements, including reporting, donor recognition, and correspondence
  • Sustain an active stewardship program, including invitations to key events and helping to write and develop ideas for a regular series of funder e-blasts
  • Accurately track project budgets and reconcile with central and department accounting teams
  • Maintain the grants calendar, Data Arts profile, and all database entries
  • Schedule meetings across Academy departments
  • Support other Academy Museum events as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum one year of grant writing experience for a non-profit organization or related experience, preferably with an arts or cultural organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability and demeanor to succeed in a high-profile, deadline-driven work environment with multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Blackbaud Altru or Raisers Edge databases; moving image editing and graphic design experience helpful
  • Some evening and weekend hours required.
