Description

Under direction of the Facilities Manager, the Food Service Supervisor is responsible to lead the Food Service Department in a direction to prepare high quality, nutritious meals, and maintain all general operations of a commercial kitchen. Is responsible to maintain all required local, state and federal health guidelines as well as the reporting paperwork. Is responsible for all food purchasing and financial reporting for government financial reimbursement. Is responsible to hire, train and maintain all workers within the Food Service Department.

  • Key Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Supervises, schedules and provides employees with performance standards, expectations, and ongoing feedback regarding progress. Constructively addresses performance problems in accordance with HR policies and procedures.
    2. Is responsible to coordinate and maintain a menu driven food ordering system.
    3. Supervises and coordinates the Food Service Department to provide a nutritional rotating menu service as outlined by the Michigan Department of Education / School Meals Program and its guidelines.
    4. Supervises, coordinates and maintains a high standard of cleanliness of kitchen area and equipment which is in compliance with Michigan Health Department standards.
    5. Will ensure agency safety procedures and all OSHA safety standards and regulations are met within the Food Service Program.
    6. Assists and communicates with Children's Home leadership in maintaining dining areas and other kitchen equipment throughout the building to ensure cleanliness and sanitization standards are maintained.
    7. Understands and follows all health department, government and Council on Accreditation regulations which apply to the Food Service Department.
    8. Is able to navigate and utilize the Michigan Department of Education / School Meals Program web-site for materials related to the running of a commercial kitchen.
    9. Supervises, coordinates and trains the standards to safely handle, label, store, and stock perishable food, non-food items, cleaning supplies and chemicals.
    10. Supervises and coordinates all arrangements and food / beverage preparation for special events and meetings such as banquets, board meetings, luncheons, and trainings.
    11. Assists with set-up, take-down, and clean-up of agency events when neede
    12. Supervises and coordinates food service donations; storage, pick up and dissemination.
    13. Supervises and provides appropriate training to all food service workers and volunteers.
    14. Responsible for all kitchen operations and the delegation of duties when absent.
    15. Ensures that the kitchen meets or exceeds all, Government, Health and Council on Accreditation regulations.
    16. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Other Duties and Responsibilities
    1. Attend meetings and trainings as required by the agency and all governing entities.

Position Requirements

Education:

  • Possession Bachelor’s degree in related field (significant progress towards degree and equivalent experience can be considered.)

License:

  • Proficient in spreadsheet and database software.

Qualifications / Experience:

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Emotionally able to work with information that may be traumatic in nature, as well as, work with individuals or families in crisis or experiencing trauma.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Work involves talking, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Noise in the work environment is usually moderately quiet but can be very loud at times.
  • Work in an environment with various degrees of discomfort.
  • Driving as needed throughout the day; which may include driving in the dark.

A minimum of three to five years’ experience in commercial food preparation and kitchen experience required. Knowledge of nutritional requirements is preferred.

Minimum prior training standard: At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either not more than 5 years prior to their starting date or completed within 30 days of the employee’s start date.

Currently (ServSafe- Food Handler) Certified, or completed within 30 days of the employee’s start date.
