Senior Payroll Specialist 

Description

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for running multiple bi-weekly payrolls, ensuring compliance with tax and wage and hour regulations, managing the integrity of the Ascentis/Ceridian payroll system and reporting on payroll related information.

  • Collects, calculates and enters data necessary for payroll processing, including but not limited to status changes (from HR department and HRIS system); team member hours worked, paid and unpaid benefit time off (via Time and Labor system and in coordination with managers); deductions and garnishments, bonuses and other additional compensation.
  • Reviews and approves changes to the payroll system from HR and employee self-service.
  • Enters direct deposit and tax information into payroll system when working from paper forms.
  • Reviews, trouble shoots and performs set up for NOVAtime time tracking system.
  • Processes and reviews bi-weekly payroll for multiple pay directories via Ascentis/Ceridian system, ensuring timing, compliant and accurate delivery of wages to all team members.
  • Researches and executes any payroll requirements, including state, local and federal taxes, Social Security, unemployment, disability, pay rules, etc. Studies existing and new legislation; enforces adherence to requirements; advises management on needed actions.
  • Assists with general 401k administration and compliance.
  • Completes, interprets and shares payroll related reports.
  • Works with HR to complete employment verifications and information requests.
  • Contributes to ensure required filings are completed as necessary.
  • Supports any payroll related internal or external audits.
  • Addresses any questions or requests related to payroll. Troubleshoots and resolves any discrepancies.
 
Position Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.

Experience and Training:

  • Minimum 5 or more years managing complex payrolls.
  • Familiarly with Ascentis/Ceridian systems or proven adaptability combined with experience with similar systems.

Specific Skills:

  • Strong skills in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of accounting, payroll and wage and hour processes and regulations in multiple states.
  • Resourceful to research questions and stay current on changes.
  • Mathematical aptitude, analysis/critical thinking and problem solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly organized, with a high degree of ownership for projects, a sense of urgency and strong follow-through.
  • Responsible and self-directed.
  • Possesses high level of integrity, recognizing need for confidentiality and discretion/tact in certain circumstances.
  • Customer service oriented with excellent sense of urgency and accountability. Able to multitask and meet deadlines.
