Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is Canada's largest children's rehabilitation hospital, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. We pioneer treatments, technologies, therapies and real-world programs that give children with disabilities the tools to participate fully in life. Housed within Holland Bloorview, the Bloorview Research Institute is dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities through client and family-centred rehabilitation research. The Bloorview Research Institute is recognized in Canada and around the world for its unique client population and leadership in the field of childhood disability.

Job Description:

This position starts 30 September, 2019 completing August 31, 2020, with the possibility of a one-year extension.

A skilled and enthusiastic post-doctoral fellow is being sought to be involved with Dr. King's program of research supported by a Canada Research Chair in Optimal Care for Children with Disabilities. Dr. King's research spans (1) improving client engagement, resiliency, and outcomes in pediatric rehabilitation, (2) understanding environmental qualities and client experiences in the context of various intervention approaches, including solution-focused coaching, and (3) promoting the development of service providers' skills and strategies, including listening and engagement skills. The post-doctoral fellow will assist with various aspects of this work, including grant preparation, the development of outcome measures, and the analysis and publication of both quantitative and qualitative data. The successful candidate will have an excellent academic profile and demonstrate the potential to eventually excel as an independent investigator in the field of childhood disability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play an integral role in ongoing programs of research and scholarship involving positive constructs such as engagement, resiliency, and participation, under the supervision of Dr. King
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Communicate findings through written material and assist with knowledge exchange, including poster, presentation, and manuscript development, as required
  • Support the preparation of funding proposals and academic manuscripts
  • Work with research coordinators, research assistants, and other team members
  • Mentor and assist graduate students, as appropriate and as directed
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities
  • Carry out administrative and management work associated with the program of research

Qualifications:

  • PhD in the social sciences or a health-related discipline
  • Received PhD within 5 years of Fellowship start date
  • Proficiency in quantitative methods and measure development preferred
  • Strong academic writing skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet and MEDLINE searches)
  • Good understanding of TCPS 2 guidelines
  • Knowledge and use of innovative knowledge sharing methods an asset
