What are we looking for in a Support Specialist?

The Support Specialist for the Information Services team is a generalist for the department, assisting Comprehensive employees with hardware or software issues and supporting the IS department with other tasks & projects. The Support Specialist is responsible for setting up and maintaining all end user workstations and for diagnosing & troubleshooting problems that users experience. Installation of software, preparing equipment for updates, and serving as back-up to the Help Desk are regular duties of the Support Specialist. It is extremely important in this role that the Support Specialist has an effective communication style, can work patiently with individuals who have varying levels of technological abilities, and is willing to learn a wide variety of programs and devices in order to provide assistance to all staff throughout the agency. This position will require routine travel to sites throughout our service area and occasional night & weekend work.

Support Specialist duties may include:

  • installing & maintaining all end user work stations, software & equipment
  • diagnosing and correcting end user issues, referring problems to appropriate team members if necessary, and documenting all resolutions
  • assisting with the evaluation of new software, hardware, and operating systems and configuring or customizing software applications as needed
  • creating, maintaining, and installing operating system images
  • serving as backup for the Help Desk
  • developing documentation to train users on computer hardware/software and providing training or instruction to employees
  • ensuring software is installed & configured correctly and applying updates when necessary
 
Position Requirements

Education & Experience: Associate’s degree in computer science or related field and one year of relevant experience or training. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft Terminal Services and Symantec Ghost

Other Credentials Required: Driver's License, Vehicle Liability Insurance
