Energy Efficiency Project Manager (Chicago)

Position summary

Slipstream is seeking a project manager with strong communication and organizational skills. This position will lead outreach and marketing functions for a utility-funded commercial new construction and major renovation energy efficiency program in Illinois. Familiarity with commercial building design and energy efficiency is a plus. This position will be in our Chicago office which is located “in-the-loop” near public transit.

Primary and Essential Responsibilities

  1. Conduct outreach to recruit program participants (owners, developers and design firms) and grow the program:
  • Monitor industry publications for information about commercial building projects in Chicago and northern Illinois.
  • Present information about the program at lunch and learns and other outreach events.
  • Creatively and collaboratively develop ways of reaching new market segments or otherwise growing the program.
  • Research and identify appropriate owner/design firm contacts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective and repeat program participants.
  • Share information about program offerings and field preliminary technical questions from customers.
  • Screen potential projects against program eligibility requirements.
  1. Develop and update program collateral such as program overviews, case studies, program forms and technical content.
  2. Coordinate with utility program managers and marketing departments.
  3. Coordinate with subcontractors, customers and internal staff.
  4. Coordinate with other utility programs.
  5. Manage subcontracts; review and approve invoices.
  6. Train staff and subcontractors on program processes.
  7. Support data tracking, analysis and reporting functions.
  8. Additional responsibilities and utility requests as needed.
  9. Actively participate as a member of assigned workgroups.
  10. These responsibilities are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned from time to time.
Position Requirements


  • A BA or BS degree.
  • Three years relevant professional experience is preferred


  • Top notch organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze, manipulate and present data effectively in reports and presentations
  • Ability to network and identify opportunities for new partners and program participants
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve and manage multiple tasks effectively in reports and presentations.
  • Proven knowledge of working in databases
  • Demonstrated connection and commitment to Slipstream’s mission

Mental and Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
