Category Lift Operations  

Lift Operations is responsible for the safe loading and unloading of our customers on chair lifts, carpet conveyor and surface lifts. The Lift Operations Lead Operator is an important link in the structure of the Lift Operations Department. The Lead Operator needs to support company policies and manage his/her crew. The job requires knowledge of the lifts and their operation, familiarity of the mountain, and communication and customer service skills. This is an outdoor and physically demanding position. Lift Operations is a team-oriented department focused on providing our guests with excellent customer service.

Job Duties

The list below best represents the majority of the tasks you will be asked to perform at some time during your employment at Dodge Ridge. It is not intended to represent all the tasks since we cannot predict the variety of challenges we must face in providing the product our guest expects. We will never ask you to perform a task that is inherently unsafe or that you are not adequately trained to perform. When we do ask for your assistance in any job, we expect an enthusiastic and cooperative response.

Under the supervision of the Lift Operations Supervisors, the Lead Operator shall be required to:

-Comply with the A.N.S.I. code B77.1 section 1999, which states the duties of the operator shall be as follows:

a.)to assume responsible charge of the aerial lift;

b.)to assign and supervise all attendants on his/her aerial lift;

c.)to maintain an operational log as required in;

d.)to advise the supervisor of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation.

-Be responsible for the daily operation of the assigned ski lift and related facilities and prepare appropriate daily lift reports, logs, and incident reports as needed.

-Check out and prepare the assigned ski lift for secure and efficient operational conditions.

-Continually remain vigilant to the needs of both the equipment and the skiing customers, and react to those needs in a protective manner while maintaining quality service.

-Maintain lift house and equipment and surrounding area in a neat and orderly condition.

-Maintain carriers, loading and unloading areas, platforms, and ramps, (shoveling), in such a manner as to make it easy for the skiers/boarders to load and unload with a high degree of care and efficiency.

-Be responsible for supervision of lift attendants; directing their daily activities, training, lunch breaks, with respect to adherence of company policies including uniforms and appearance.

-Conduct regular performance appraisals (including appearance) on assigned attendants and discuss these appraisals with Lift Supervisors.

-Requires communication of needed equipment and materials to produce the best product possible.

-Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This involves interacting with the guests in a courteous manner, and being able to answer questions professionally.

-Keep informed; support and promote company policies and procedures.

-Keep updated on current events at Dodge Ridge.

-Requires communication with other departments in a professional manner.

-Requires you to provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming or slope conditions, and related information intended to help the guest maximize their experience.

-Be responsible for the replacement ticket check out, issuance, and turn in, as well as efficient ticket checking and maze control at the assigned lift.

-Possess knowledge in rope rescue skills; assist in lift evacuations.

-Comply to and enforce safety rules and policies.

-Be knowledgeable of and promote hill safety, risk awareness, and good housekeeping procedures.

-Be prepared for walking and working on uneven ground, deep powder, and icy and wet surfaces.

-Be helpful in educating employees, lift operations staff, and guests about the Your Responsibility Code. Safety will always be a priority in the Lift Operations department.

Job Qualifications

-Be knowledgeable in the needs of aerial lifts and surface tows, and standard procedures for their care, inspection, and safe operation.

-Possess the ability to inspect and maintain loading and unloading ramps.

-Possess the ability to direct the work of others and to work independently.

-Be aware of the ski area’s terrain and facilities.

-Be well groomed and present a professional public image.

-Maintain a courteous, pleasant demeanor in person and on the telephone.

-Be in good physical condition.

-May be required at times to do heavy, awkward lifting, (up to 50lbs.).

-Must be capable of tolerating heights.

-Have good manual and physical dexterity skills.

-Possess the ability to read and write legibly, and to use good composition skills to complete reports, forms, etc.

-Be punctual, honest, trustworthy, and posses good judgment.

-Provide a positive and helpful attitude towards Dodge Ridge employees and customers.

Work Schedules

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.

When conditions are normal, you can expect to work 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.  During busy periods, you may be expected to work 6 (six) days a week.

We will attempt to offer consecutive days off, and accommodate special scheduling requests, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to satisfy all requests.

Work schedules, staffing levels and weather conditions may dictate when lunches and breaks will be taken.

You must arrange for transportation to work so you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time.  Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snow packed, and icy road surfaces.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Work is typically outside working directly with resort guests and other resort staff members.  It can be noisy, cold, wet, or humid.  You may be expected to work in high places and frequently you will work around moving objects. At times you may be inside your lift shack.


A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required.  Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift.  We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job.  However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job, as listed below.  The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work.  All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift.

-Warm boots with vibram soles (sorrels, snowboard boots o.k.)

-Ski and or snowboarding equipment (must pass binding release certification; you should be aware that you are responsible for any and all damage to your equipment while at work.)


-You will be expected to maintain high professional appearance and personal hygiene.

-No smoking or chewing tobacco while in uniform.




When off duty, the skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing/riding for both the guest and fellow employees.  You are required to be aware of all safe skiing/riding procedures, trail closures, and out of bounds policies.

About the Organization Dodge Ridge, located in Tuolumne County, is a complete winter sports area featuring downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing with 60 runs, 12 lifts, 1600' vertical, groomed trails, two restaurants, adult and children programs, and rentals.

Tuolumne County is the recreational and cultural center of the Gold Country, offering a variety of outdoor activities including skiing, biking, hiking, rafting, fishing, camping, and more.
