HIV Educator

Provides outreach educational programs, intensive case management services, and educational, social and support groups that are sensitive to individuals of diverse sexual orientation in an effort to reduce risk behaviors in the transmission of HIV infection.


  • Assists in the development and implementation of programmatic goals and objectives
  • Provides HIV-AIDS prevention and education demonstrations to individuals and committees of diverse sexual orientations.
  • Provides HIV antibody testing in cooperation with the Oklahoma State Department of Health to individuals of diverse sexual orientations.
  • Provides HIV and substance abuse prevention and education to individuals and communities at risk for HIV.
  • Provides mental health, drug, alcohol and HIV-AIDS prevention education, treatment information, and referrals to individuals and communities of diverse sexual orientations.
  • Distributes condoms and HIV risk education literature to individuals and comminutes of diverse sexual orientations through contacts with local businesses, at community meetings and during one-on-one outreach.
  • Maintains confidentiality and informs participants of rights.
  • Works as a team member with other programs; communicates and consults with other program leaders and staff when HIV is a factor and advocates on behalf of individuals impacted by HIV-AIDS in order to provide quality services to clients.
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and seminars to learn agency policy, rules, regulations, and procedures; participates in on-going in-service training as well as required eternal training and workshops.
  • Supports and assists with the facilitation of Care Plans for consumers within the Red Rock Health Team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements


  • Related Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience in the mental health or health administration field or equivalent combination of education and experience in the mental health field or health administration.
  • Ability to work with individuals and communities of diverse sexual orientations.
  • Skills in directing work of professional staff in dealing effectively with people, evaluating and choosing appropriate course of action; and in communicating ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written format.
  • Certified in HIV testing and counseling through the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
  • Certified as an HIV Educator through the OSDH or the American Red Cross.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Valid Oklahoma Drivers License.
  • Continued training to keep up-to-date on HIV research, treatment, prevention and education.
  • Commitment to the mission of Red Rock BHS
  • Preferred relevant Master’s degree with three years related experience.
