About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Position Boomerangs Key Holder  
Full-Time/Part-Time Part-Time  

Boomerangs, a chain of thrift stores operated by the AIDS Action Committee, is seeking a full-time (30-40 hours per week) Key Holder to join the team in our thrift store located in Central Square in Cambridge. Under the supervision of the Retail/Assistant Retail Manager the Key Holder is responsible for opening and closing store, and acting as manager on duty when a store manager is away. This position does require evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours. .


  1. Prepares the store for opening including counting cash tills, checking voicemail, and directing other employees in opening cleaning duties.
  2. Prepares the store for closing, including notifying customers of closing time, directing employees in cleaning duties, counting the registers, completing closing paper work and securing the cash tills and cash deposit in the safe.
  3. Acts as manager on duty if there is no manager or assistant manager present. This includes directing other employees, maintaining a safe and clean store, and assisting customers. When acting as manager, a key holder is not expected to handle every difficult issue that arises, but is expected to contact the appropriate people for help and properly document any incidents.
  4. Assists in training new employees and acts as a supervisor for department associates
  5. Provides exceptional customer service and alerts supervisors to any customer issues
  6. Helps with cleaning tasks to maintain a neat, safe work environment
  7. Assists with pricing, stocking, merchandising and organizing the sales floor
  8. Proposes new merchandising, organization, and sales strategies to management
  9. Remains familiar with and follows store policies and procedures as well as general company policies.
  10. Engages in loss prevention duties as needed, in accordance with training from Store Manager
  11. Perform related duties and projects as assigned

Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly Rate: $14.00/hr

Position Requirements


  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to act as manager on duty if manager is not available
  • Ability to work independently on tasks as needed and manage time effectively
  • Ability to monitor sales goals and shift priorities and direct others to meet daily, weekly, and monthly goals
  • Knowledge of current trends and pricing in antiques and collectibles as well as familiarity with current retailers, both discount and high end, preferred
  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor and positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate in English. Additional languages a plus
  • Flexible availability required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sensitivity to issues surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic
