About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:



• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;



• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and



• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

 
Position Accounts Receivable Assistant

Description

Function:
Under the direction of the Billing and Collections Manager, the Accounts Receivable Assistant provides support for the medical/behavioral health billing process and works in (but not limited to) the following three major areas: charge review, payment posting, and claim follow-up.

Representative Duties:

  1. Reviewing charge data
  • Reviews all relevant encounter form information on a daily basis
  • Accurately review all charge data information including patient demographics, patient insurance information, grant/contract information, ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT codes, and all other information required to submit accurate 1st and 3rd bills
  1. Posts cash, checks, and EOB/EOP's
  • Enters bank lock-box remittance information from 1st and 3rd party payors, posting payments, adjustments, write-offs, withholds, denials, rejections, appeals, and balance transfers into Fenway Health's billing system (CPS).
  1. Filing and Data Entry
  • Enter all pertinent documentation /correspondence into appropriate system (CPS),
  • Communicate correspondence received to proper parties and enter into appropriate system (CPS) on a daily basis.
  1. Communication of Relevant Information
  • Communicate any financial issues pertinent to reimbursement and request necessary documentation as needed.
  • Communicate pertinent insurance carrier policy changes, requirements, etc.
  1. Other A/R staff responsibilities
  • Respond to patient billing inquiries via the departmental call center or other modes of communication
  • Maintains copies of documents in an orderly filing system including periodic transfer of information to off-site, long-term storage
  • Provides assistance to co-workers and other Fenway Health staff in resolving patient billing inquiries
  • Other daily responsibilities as assigned

  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
  • Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
  • Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
  • Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
  • Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
  • Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations on a volunteer basis
  1. Perform related duties as required

Position Requirements

Requirements:

Basic Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Business with High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years related experience

Knowledge/Other Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and research skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic PC skills for spreadsheet and word processing applications (knowledge of Word and Excel required)
  • Basic computer education in specialized software applications such as billing management systems and using the internet.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Medical and Behavioral Health billing experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:
    • Sit at a computer station, as well as execute data entry for extended periods of time
