Description

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program offers Homelessness Prevention & Stabilization Services to Veterans and their families. These supportive services include outreach, case management, help in obtaining VA benefits, emergency financial assistance for rent & utilities and assistance in obtaining and coordinating other public benefits.

Position Requirements

Job Title: Outreach and Intake Specialist I
FT/Non-Exempt Position/Hourly Position with full Benefits Package; Medical after 60days
Schedule: 8hrs daily; M-F; Flexible Schedule; may include nights and weekends; (60% of office)
Start Date: ASAP
Work Locations: TBD

Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct initial eligibility screening of Veterans seeking program assistance usually through phone calls or unscheduled walk-ins.
• Provide general information and community referrals to Veteran’s not meeting program eligibility requirements and/or Veterans not scheduled with a Case Manager due to program capacity.
• Set up initial client file for Veterans being assigned to a Case Manager.
• Assist Veterans in scheduling appointments with program Case Managers and Outreach and Intake Specialist II’s.
• Prepare reports as requested by Lead Outreach and Intake Specialist, Program Manager or Site Coordinator.
• Coordinate and record community donations.
• Participate in outreach and networking activities in the community as needed; such as stand-downs. Promote the success and reputation of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. Up to 10% travel within main county and surrounding areas as needed.

Essential Job Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent reading and writing skills required.
• 1yr in a customer service focused environment is required.
• Experience working with homeless, low income, Veterans and their families a strong plus.
• Must have own transportation; travel required/driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Strong communication and computer skills.
• Knowledge of community resources; Federal, State and local assistance programs, housing & utility assistance and disability benefits.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means.
• Ability to present a friendly and positive demeanor to veterans, their families, staff, supportive services personnel, funders, and the general public.
• Ability to make oral presentations to large and small groups.
• Ability to work in a remote office, self motivating and sufficient.
• Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations.
• Ability to work in a fast paced/team environment.
