We are seeking energetic applicants with a passion for supporting children and adults in After School Recreational environment. Our Empower After School program has an immediate opportunity for Recreational Paraprofessionals to join their team in Wilmington, NC. The Part-Time ongoing schedule is Monday-Friday (2:00 pm - 6:00 pm) and 1 Saturday a month.   • Responsible for assisting individuals at learning and increasing skills in all areas of independence including, but not limited to: Self-help skills, independent living skills, accessing community resources and pursuit of leisure activities. If an individualized plan exists, this document serves as a guide for these supports.
  • Responsible for providing assistance with identifying, developing and monitoring an individual's goals while making adjustments as needed.
  • Assists individuals we support with inclusion.
  • Participates in all program activities with participants.
  • Respects the dignity and individuality of each individual and his/her right to confidentiality.
  • Assists individuals we support with daily needs.
  • Ensures that the safety, health, hygiene and nutritional needs of the individuals we support are met.
  • Lifts and transfers individuals we support as needed.
  • Assists in daily and weekly clean-ups of facility and activity areas.
  • Shows and encourages respect for personal property, program equipment, and facilities.
  • Sets an example for others through cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, sportsmanship, and other appropriate behaviors.
  • Attends all staff and program meetings.
 
Position Requirements
  • Minimum of 18 years of age, high school diploma or GED required from a USDOE or CHEA accredited institution.
  • One year of college or equivalent preferred.
  • Enthusiastic interest in working with children and adults with various disabilities; two years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people while demonstrating respect and consideration for staff and participants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with staff members and participants to provide a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ability to appropriately enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Physical ability to transfer participants in and out of wheelchairs, push people in wheelchairs, and assist participants with activities of daily living.
  • Identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to daily program activities.
  • Has an appreciation and respect for the outdoors.
  • Exhibits enthusiasm, creativity, and a sense of humor.
  • Works independently while handling multiple responsibilities and priorities.
  • Ability to manage the goals of multiple individuals and families on a timely basis.
  • Must complete and maintain current Easterseals UCP training curriculum, which includes, but not limited to the following: CPR/First Aid, NCI (as appropriate), Medication Administration (as appropriate), OSHA/BBP training, core competencies and other training relevant to the position as defined by local program guidelines.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and maintain current vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to provide own reliable transportation for use in the program, and/or be willing to transport program participants in agency vehicles- e.g. van or mini-bus.
