Summary

LSI is looking for a Mechatronics Engineer (aka Automation). The ideal candidate will have strong engineering skills with a solid background in the configuration, testing, integration, and debugging of automated robotic systems. Management of robotic systems, leadership, early adopter, and training skills are required for the candidate to be successful in overseeing the various automation projects and project teams.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Implementation of new assembly & robotic systems, system improvements, and experimental designs.
  • Apply principals and techniques of electrical/mechanical engineering to integrate electrical components, mechanical components and systems into an overall design.
  • Design, program, test, install, and qualify production assembly and robotic equipment, control system, PLC based hardware and software plus all associated documentation,
  • Perform ROI analysis on proposed systems.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment
  • Understand and apply safety risk assessments of systems
  • Program industrial robots in their native software.
  • Develop robot programs that can interface with other equipment
  • Develop and teach optimal robot points, paths, and teach methodology.
  • Document robotic application development and associated calibration and setup routines.
  • Write algorithms or programming code for ad hoc applications.
  • Advise project teams on optimal robotic application layout and gripper designs
  • Collaboration with project team members throughout design process, assisting with manuals and procedures.
  • Recommend, develop, and plan software initiatives.
  • May use computer assisted engineering, design software to perform assignments.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends.
  • This position may have SOX 404 compliance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

BS in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or Automation Engineering or equivalent demonstrated industry experience.

Minimum 1 to 3 years of robotic/automation experience.

PLC Controls and programming strongly preferred.

Experience with Epson, Fanuc, ABB, Denso, Staubli, UR or other industrial robotic platforms.

Previous experience in integrating robotic systems and/or training.

Proficiency with Creo or other 3D modeling software.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Does not have any supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions within the organization.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

Ability and willingness for monthly business travel to divisional locations, suppliers, customers, and vendors nationwide and international.

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Possess the ability to identify problems, deal with them, and work towards a solution.

Physical Demands *

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to pull handles and push buttons. Requirements may also include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
