POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION

The Director of Corporate MEP Construction is responsible for the conformance, performance, and quality of all MEP construction by RDC's Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers across the RDC Data Center construction portfolio. Regular, predictable attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to directly manage the safety, quality, and conformance of all MEP scope across all projects.
  • Responsible to manage the following people/roles:
    • Corporate Mechanical Manager
    • Corporate Equipment Manager
    • MEP Managers at each jobsite
  • Provide constructability reviews and VE into design process.
  • Validate that drawings and specifications accurately reflect the desired construction quality.
  • Support preconstruction activities to ensure consistency across all projects
  • Ensure all field installations are in accordance with the design
  • Ensure all Contractors and Suppliers are following safety best practices.
  • Ensure all equipment is specified to be available, and constructible.
  • Manage equipment quality including review of Specifications, bid analysis, PO's, Submittals, FWT, freight/logistics, care/custody, protection, installation, startup, commissioning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must have overall expertise in Data Center construction with specific expertise in Electrical systems and construction practices.
  • Background in MEP Construction and knowledge of MEP Construction means and methods.
  • Expertise in working around energized electrical work, control of hazardous energies, proper PPE for the task, lockout/tagout procedures, and kirk key schemes.
  • Proven track record of People Management in technical roles, including career development, performance management and discipline/discharge.
  • Comprehension of critical-path schedule development, management of trade performance and productivity
  • Proficient with computers to include the utilization of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Strong executive presence - able to convey complex and technical concepts to a non-construction audience.
  • Able to work in a team environment. Even tempered and able to work through conflict with others
  • Flexible and willing to consider others ideas
  • Manages stress and/or fast-pace effectively.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED is required; college degree in engineering or related technical field preferred
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience as an electrical or mechanical engineer or as a Master electrician leading electrical construction projects of industrial facilities that includes;
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the data center industry and;
  • 6 years of experience managing people.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Familiarity with construction sites and hazards and ability to navigate project sites safely and in control
  • Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.
  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to climb a ladder and work on a raised platform.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • 50%: Standard office; Data Center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises; extensive daily usage of workstation or computer.
  • 50%: Construction jobsite at various levels of development

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel up to 50% of the time. May require higher percentage of travel for shorter periods of time
  • Must work out of a RagingWire location; no telecommuting permitted.
  • Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver's license.
