Share Email Opening Title Senior Engineer (Topside Design)  Description The Columbia Group (TCG), a design engineering and technical services company that has a successful 50+-year history of providing the United States Military with engineering, design, acquisition, logistics management, fabrication, test and evaluation, information technology and financial management support services, is seeking a Senior Engineer (Topside Design). The ideal candidate will perform the following duties: Works directly with stakeholders and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on complex projects related to vessel (ship) design and modifications. Employs experience, existing guidelines and instructions, guidance form experienced engineering supervisors and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives. Assignments may require the development of improvements to current designs, techniques and procedures and/or innovative approaches. Applies vessel design knowledge in accordance with applicable U.S. Navy or American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) rules, regulations, and industry standards to develop analyses and products in one or more of the following technical areas: Develop general arrangements and configuration, developing requirements for area and volume, preparing overall ship arrangement concepts and drawings illustrating primary functional allocation of spaces within the ship considering location and adjacency constraints; Develop designs, arrangements, and specifications for vessel systems and compartments; Performing special studies including access and line of sight analyses, assisting in detailed layouts of individual compartments such as living and berthing spaces, ship support spaces, storerooms, and shops. Provide engineering support in the analysis of all technical issues and design challenges pertaining to all ship systems. Communicate and participate in integrated product teams (IPTs) and working groups with Navy entities in support of the program. Participate in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with Navy and Coast Guard customers. Coordinate and participate in the creation of technical papers, studies, and reports on emerging issues. Analyze technical reports from third party design sources and make recommendations to Government customers. Assist in the review/or preparation of acquisition documents such as statements of work (SOWs) and systems specifications for partners and subcontractors. Occasional travel is required, within the Washington, DC metropolitan area for meetings. There is also the potential for travel to naval and private shipyards, and visits with European partners.   Position Requirements Required Education, Skills and Experience: Bachelor's in Engineering and 10 years of experience in shipboard Design and Integration focused on surface combatants are required. 18 years of direct experience required in lieu of degree. Familiarity with Navy shipboard protocol is required; Ability to apply regulatory body rules, ship specifications, and other technical guidance to develop conforming designs and modifications to ships and craft; Demonstrated ability to successfully complete engineering designs and analyses with minimal guidance and assistance; U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.   Desired Skills and Experience: Experience in Integrated Topside Design, Weapon Effects, Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) and the associated military specifications and standards, antenna design and installation, Knowledge of Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Fuel, Ordnance, or Personnel (HERF/O/P) Familiarity with naval radar systems, communication systems, EW systems, EM field measurements. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).
