Engineering Specialist - Water Resources

Position Engineering Specialist - Water Resources  

WE ARE a Minneapolis based engineering firm that provides civil engineering consulting services in the areas of transportation, land development, and land survey. Our staff of engineers, environmental planners, inspectors, landscape architects, surveyors and technicians have the expertise to successfully carry projects from the planning stage, to design, and through construction.

If you are an Engineering Specialist with a background in Water Resources, we are looking for you to join our Transportation team. You will work collaboratively with our roadway design squads to provide storm sewer and stormwater best management practice design for a wide variety of City, County, and MnDOT highway design projects.

Using your expertise and knowledge, you will play a key role in developing a storm sewer design from preliminary concept to final plan production. In addition to performing hydrologic and hydraulic design for the project, we will rely on you to evaluate constructability considerations such as utility conflicts and staging sequencing to develop designs that are cost-effective and efficient for our clients.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed to work together with a design squad, as well as develop department-wide standards for water resources design and plan production. You will have the opportunity to mentor, coach and train junior staff in basic water resources design.

    Position Requirements

    Your Qualifications and Experience:

    • Experience in several technical aspects of water resources design, including storm sewer and culvert design, turf establishment and erosion control design, and grading plans.
    • Experience using hydrologic and hydraulic software for storm sewer and culvert design -GEOPAK Drainage is preferred.
    • Strong working knowledge of CAD standards, file organization, and other standard practices used to develop final plans for transportation projects.
    • Familiarity with the MnDOT Drainage Manual, MnDOT Standard Plans and Plates, and generally accepted water resources design practices used on MnDOT and MnDOT State Aid transportation projects.
    • Basic knowledge of the various stormwater permitting requirements for projects, including NPDES, watershed districts, and local municipalities.
    • Familiarity and basic skills with GIS-based software.
    • Strong time management and communication skills to meet the deadlines and schedule demands for multiple projects.

    Educational Background and Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Natural Resources, or other related field; or an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology.
    • 3 to 5 years of experience performing water resources engineering design, preferably on transportation-based projects.
    • Strong working knowledge of CAD software, including MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
