Curriculum Coordinator

The Curriculum Coordinator provides curriculum support for the Head Start and Early Head Start Education team to ensure that Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms are meeting the highest level of quality.


  1. Plan, coordinate and execute education program goals set forth by the Director of Education.
  2. Coordinate and monitor the implementation of chosen curriculum, VPK implementation and Teaching Strategies Gold to ensure fidelity.
  3. Identifies needs and gaps in implementation and is resourceful in problem-solving.
  4. Visit HS/EHS classrooms twice a week to conduct coaching sessions that include on-site modeling and teacher observations of appropriate early educational practices and activities using the Practice Based Coaching framework model.
  5. Model, demonstrate and observe Infant, Toddler and Pre-K CLASS dimensions during classroom visits.
  6. Model, demonstrate and observe Conscious Discipline, and VPK strategies during classroom visits.
  7. Model best practices and strategies in all domains of the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework.
  8. Implement the Practice-Based Coaching framework model with fidelity.
  9. Develop and provide trainings, as needed, on topics related to early childhood education and development including CLASS, Conscious Discipline, Creative Curriculum, and Teaching Strategies Gold.
  10. Travel to sites to observe Education Specialists in assigned classrooms and provide feedback and guidance in coaching model implementation.
  11. Visit HS classrooms to observe and monitor progress on VPK and school readiness skills.
  12. Monitor and advise on Teaching Strategies Gold learning objectives and checkpoint completion. Run composite reports on TSGold.
  13. Analyze curriculum data and make recommendations for future implementation.
  14. Work with Education Training Coordinator to plan and implement related staff training and presents to large group audiences.
  15. Assist the Center Manager and teaching staff, as needed.
  16. Assist teachers and Education Specialists in collecting and analyzing assessment data to develop lesson plans and activities to support children's growth and development.
  17. Monitor child portfolios and lesson plans to ensure compliance, timeliness, and quality.
  18. Assist in the evaluation of classrooms using CLASS, ITERS, ECERS, and other classroom monitoring tools.
  19. Attend required workshops and in-service trainings and keep informed of current trends and new professional techniques through participating in professional workshops, conferences and seminars and by reading professional journals and publications, training and workshops/conferences related to early childhood development to increase knowledge of best practices.
  20. Advocate on behalf of Episcopal Children's Services Head Start/ Early Head Start and children and families involved in the program.

  • This position reports to the Director of Education.
Position Requirements


  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education
  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in education that includes ages K through 6, with 15 credit hours in early childhood education courses, and at least 480 hours experience teaching preschool-age children
  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field with 45 credit hours in early childhood education courses, with at least 480 hours of early education teaching experience
  • CLASS experience required with CLASS certification preferred


  • Knowledge of current practices in early childhood education with an emphasis in teacher-child interactions and using curriculum and assessments to plan and individualize
  • Knowledge of ECS Coaching model
  • Ability to articulate and model best teaching instructional strategies and practices.
  • Ability to motivate teachers to high levels of commitment and performance
  • Establish a relationship of mutual trust and respect with support staff, site coordinators and teaching staff
  • Ability to perform with little direct supervision
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and abuse-reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products at an intermediate to advanced level
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records, analyze data and prepare reports
  • Ability to present in front of large group audiences


  • Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile coverage
  • Satisfactory Driving Record (as outlined in Vehicle Driving Policy)
  • CLASS and TSgold certification in Infant, Toddler & Preschool within 60 days of employment
  • By October 2019, must have current First Aid and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in-service training annually, July 1- June 30


  • Works in early childhood classroom settings
  • Ability to lead large group trainings
  • Travel to multiple sites is required
  • Some nights and weekends for special events and training may be required
