Purpose of Division:

Business Intelligence Services, an entrepreneurial team within the Office of Corporate Strategy & Impact, drives innovation at the intersection of technology, data, and community development. BIS offers capacity-building products and services to help internal divisions and member organizations anticipate change and grow their own capabilities and resources.

Within the laboratory that is NeighborWorks America, this unique group functions to translate stakeholder needs into data-driven products and services. These products help local organizations understand their communities and tell their stories of impact to the world. For this reason, NeighborWorks network organizations are a frequent and significant client of the Business Intelligence team.

The Office of Corporate Strategy & Impact is responsible for strategic planning, corporate performance measurement, scorecard development and implementation, program evaluation, data collection and policy, business intelligence, all of which furthers the improvement of coordination and integration of programmatic systems across the functional divisions of the organization. Under the guidance of the CEO and in collaboration with the SVPs of the corporation's divisions, Corporate Strategy & Impact leads projects and processes which are important to the accomplishment of overall corporate strategic goals, with emphasis on systems or operations which support improved corporate-wide programmatic performance and communications.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Business Intelligence Services, this position is responsible for engaging in data driven analyses to evaluate NeighborWorks America's programs and activities and assist the NeighborWorks network in communicating its impact. This position requires vision, creativity and proven project management acumen. The BIS Senior Manager works collaboratively across the NW corporation and network and should have the ability to lead without authority and navigate grey areas in an approachable way. The incumbent will demonstrate advanced communication skills in writing and in person with strong attention to detail and ability to receive and act constructively upon feedback.

The Senior Manager leads the corporate and network use of Business Intelligence tools, including Tableau and Alteryx. This work requires the ability to independently aggregate, review, analyze and present performance measurement and market data, apply a strategic lens to impact communications, and report to key stakeholders on findings. It also requires capacity to adroitly interface with diverse customers within the corporation and network and build the technical capacity of those customers, as well as partner and work collaboratively with a team of analysts on a project basis.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to maximize the divisional, corporate and network use of business intelligence tools and platforms, including Tableau and Alteryx
  • Provide proactive, professional and technical support and capacity building to internal customers (business units, task groups, initiatives etc.) in developing, designing and/or implementing tools and systems to set goals and measure results in relation to specific programs or services of the corporation.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Public Policy/Legislative Affairs, and Divisions of Development, and Public Relations to provide corporate data and analysis needed.
  • Develop and execute analytical projects (including dashboards, maps and infographics) for internal and external customers as required and present results.
  • Partner on internal project management for the Enterprise Business Intelligence Project, including tracking action items, coordinating technical cross-divisional teams, and presenting project updates to management and Officers
  • Collaborate on the marketing efforts to advertise the work of the Business Intelligence team with both internal and external customers

Nature of Work Contacts:
The Senior Manager works cross-functionally to build alliances across the corporation. The job requires internal collaboration with CSI, and with senior management and program staff of multiple divisions within NeighborWorks America including IT and Procurement. External collaboration with the NeighborWorks network involves working with stakeholders to provide products and help build capacity to advance their own analytical work and practices with the goal of building a strong network of fellow data-driven practitioners. The position interacts with external researchers and evaluation experts from outside organizations in the public, academic and non-profit sectors and runs a grant program that pairs network staff with technical experts.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: Bachelor’s degree, in economics, public policy, business, public administration or related discipline involving research, quantitative and qualitative analysis.
(b) Experience: At least 5-7 years professional experience conducting program research, analysis and strategy development, preferably in the non-profit or public sector, or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of research design, data collection, analysis and data reporting/presentation. Proficient in statistical analysis. Understanding of databases and how to use and create them. Aptitude for learning new software to support research and analysis work. GIS/mapping capability. Excellent communication skills. Project Management skills.

(f) Technology: Demonstrated advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Software (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)). Competency with mapping platforms. Advanced competency with Tableau; willingness and aptitude to learn Alteryx and other data visualization and analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree is preferred. Understanding of housing, community development or social policies and their respective data is highly preferred.

Working Conditions:
(a) Travel: Up to 15%
(b) Physical/Sensory Demands: Fast paced working environment with extensive computer usage. Requires occasional absences from employee’s place of residence.
