Vehicle Technology Specialist 

Description

This full time operational position plans, directs, researches, implements and maintains vehicle technology within the agency. The employee is responsible for maintenance of technology related to police vehicles. The employee may be directed or called upon to assist with other police related technology related issues within the agency. The employee will work with civilians and police officers to ensure consistent and reliable access to all vehicle installed technologies, such as cameras, computers and other computer hardware and software technologies. The employee will assist the fleet technicians with their technology related work as directed by the Commander, Property Management.

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field (i.e. cyber security, management information systems, information technology) or demonstrated work experience that is adequate to perform the essential duties of this position.
  • Ability to certify and maintain an NCIC certification.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct installation of police related technology in police vehicles.
  • Schedule, plan, and oversee maintenance for all agency vehicle technology related equipment.
  • Ability to assist with the diagnoses and troubleshooting of problems and perform repairs and maintenance on agency vehicle technology and equipment.
  • Ability to conduct various analyses and inspections of vehicles and technology systems to determine the most cost effective means of maintenance, repair, or replacement.
  • Ability to install vehicle computers and related equipment and ensure proper wireless connectivity and software installations.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot vehicle technology systems.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of vehicle technology and vehicle operation.
  • Physical ability to perform manual repairs on vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and carry short distances up or down stairs, or lift onto overhead shelving without assistance.
  • Read, write, and speak English in a clear, effective manner, using proper pronunciation, diction, and grammar.
  • Ability to use a high level of discretion, good judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in assigned tasks.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Ability to pass random drug testing.
