MST Therapist

We currently have an immediate opportunity for an MST Therapist to join our team in Goldsboro. This community-based position provides support throughout (Wayne, Green, Wilson, Lenoir, Edgecomb, Sampson & Duplin Counties). Full-time schedule Mon - Fri with a 1x monthly on-call rotation schedule. If you are looking for a new and rewarding position and meet the requirements below please apply within for consideration.

The MST Therapist participates in a team approach designed to address the identified needs of children and adolescents with significant behavioral problems who are transitioning from out-of-home placements or are at risk of out-of-home placement and need intensive interventions to remain stable in the community. Full training provided in the MST Therapy model. Bilingual Spanish Speaking highly preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Conducts MST assessments including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses, and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context.
  • Engages primary caregivers and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.
  • Implements a problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, and outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process.
  • Collaborates with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and cooperation throughout MST treatment.
  • Provides direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST principles and practices.
  • Participates in all MST training, supervision and consultation activities.
  • Provides modeling, positive reinforcement, redirection and anticipatory guidance within recovery and strengths-based principles to help develop the independence of the person and/or family served.
  • Provides training to caregivers, service providers and others who have a legitimate role in addressing the needs identified in the service plan.
  • Works cooperatively with the person served, their guardian, and the Child/Family Team in the provision of services to meet the goals developed in the service plan.
  • Participates in community collaborative efforts to improve the delivery of community-based services in the region.
  • Monitors monthly financial reports and manage expenditures according to annualized budget, including receivables reports.
Position Requirements

Education Requirement:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related subject area (related bachelor’s degree and significant clinical experience in treating serious antisocial behavior in youth may also qualify at the discretion of the agency)

Preferred Experience:

  • Direct use of pragmatic (i.e. structural, strategic, and functional) family therapies
  • Individual therapy with children and adults using cognitive behavioral techniques
  • Marital therapy using behaviorally –based approaches
  • Behavioral therapy targeting school behavior and academic performance
  • Implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youth’s natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood
  • Demonstrate good moral and ethical character, clear of substantiated findings of abuse or neglect listed on the NC Health Care Registry
  • Bilingual Spanish Speaking Preferred
