Job Summary:

The Automation Engineer will provide automation field services to Dowland-Bach customers. The Automation Engineer will travel to many destinations in Alaska to commission new control systems and to diagnose and repair issues with existing systems.

3 or more years experience in the Essential Functions including, but not limited to: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.)

  • Control system field commissioning and diagnostics.
  • Instrumentation & control element commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Induction motor commissioning and troubleshooting including motors operated direct on line, with soft starters or by variable frequency drives (VFD).
  • Electrical control panel quality assurance testing.
  • Software Engineering.
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software validation, troubleshooting and implementation.
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) software validation, troubleshooting and implementation.
  • Network troubleshooting and configuration.
  • PC Hardware, Virtualization and Operating Systems.
  • Basic project management.
  • Maintain company standards for quality.
  • Exercise safe electrical habits.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly shop and work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Alaska PE License or the ability to obtain within 24 months.
  • Knowledge of process control systems.
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation programming software and hardware is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Ability to travel within Alaska to customer sites for work including remote locations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong water and waste water process knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong oil and gas process knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Dependable attendance.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time (up to 12 hours a day with lunch and breaks).
  • Must be able to withstand repetitive motion up to 12 hours a day with lunch and breaks.
  • Subject to DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Must maintain a legal Alaska Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card and pass a federal background check for work in marine, air, or other transportation terminals.
  • Ability to complete work at industrial worksites including rough and/or icy terrain.

Office Location and Travel:

This position is located in Anchorage, AK.

Up to 75% travel may be required, sometimes to remote destinations.

Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. Travel for this position may include remote destinations and/or primitive living conditions. Incumbent may be briefly exposed to ambient temperature ranges of negative (-)60F to positive (+)110F due to extremes of Alaska Environmental conditions. Typical job duties may require the incumbent to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent may occasionally be asked to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
