Description

Tuknik Government Services (TGS) is looking for an experience Splunk Administrator to support TGS and our government customer in the DC Metro Area. This position requires a Top Secret Clearance.

The Splunk Administrator will lead the installation of the Splunk software in our client’s virtualized test and productions environments, lead the effort to ingest various data sources and design and develop reports and dashboards based on client requirements. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in Splunk technology and implementation of best practices and have a working knowledge in a variety of architectural variations of the Splunk Enterprise product. This includes advanced Splunk Search Processing Language skills, expertise in developing Splunk dashboards, data models, reports and applications. Experience with storage technologies, SQL Server, platform administration on Red Hat Linux are highly desirable. Experience implementing complex applications in Splunk developed by Splunk and third party vendors required; experience with Enterprise Security (ES) and Splunk security essentials highly preferred.

The candidate must also be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communications skills, be self-driven, and work collaboratively with the members of the project team. He/she should work with the team to help the client achieve the most mission value with the available funding. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent listening skills and ask relevant insightful questions in interactions with colleagues and client. The candidate will be able to capture and present ideas articulately and persuasively to colleagues and clients, promote team morale, and enhance productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Manage front-end user accounts to the Splunk application
  • Manage back-end administrator accounts to the Splunk Linux servers (there are 8 Linux servers supporting Splunk)
  • Analyze logs for all major applications and come up with the most affected areas or reoccurring issues
  • Test and apply Linux security patches, as needed
  • Lead effort to ingest logs and data from various systems to allow reports to be built shared
  • Communicate change plans and updates to Splunk user community and organizational leadership
  • Develop, implement and document configuration standards, policies, and procedures for operating, managing and ensuring the security of the Splunk infrastructure
  • Perform data integration, data transformation, field extraction, event parsing, data preview, and application management of Splunk
  • Design and customize complex search queries and promote advance searching, forensics, and analytics. Develop dashboards, data models, reports and optimize performance to meet FFTS use cases, as needed
  • Install/configure new Splunk apps (e.g., ITSI, FISMA) to meet new FFTS use cases, as needed
  • Monitor/tune Splunk resource use, stability and performance
  • Upgrade Splunk to new versions, as needed
  • Create and maintain documentation for system changes
  • Support other tasks and requirements as required
 
Position Requirements

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Top Secret Clearance required.
  • Five+ years of total experience required
  • 3+ years of Splunk Administration
  • 5+ years of experience as a systems administrator
  • Red Hat / Linux Server administration
  • Spunk Administration and Engineer experience
  • Hands on experience with Virtualization Technology such as VMWare
  • Advanced XML, SDKs, REST API

Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, perform simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move items that weigh up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
