Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or other relevant field; three (3) years' of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated abilities in project management, evaluating opportunities, planning, promotion, establishing new campaigns, and evaluating outcomes; one (1) year of professional graphic design/marketing experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: none

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Description

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform process duties related to Public Relations. Responsibilities may include creating and maintaining a favorable public image for the City of South Fulton. Duties may include designing media releases to shape public perception of the City and to increase awareness of the work and goals of the City.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Execution of marketing communications plans and projects in support of new and existing products as well as channel communications; Responsible for managing projects and executing marketing communications activities to promote the City's branding objectives.

Development of presentations, collateral, Web copy, flyer's, e-mail broadcasts, videos, etc.; Create content communicating events, news and highlights; Consult with the Director regarding marketing, other areas of management or departments, and City partners to complete marketing projects on schedule; Activities are reviewed with the Director for direction, edits and final approval.

Assists staff by coordinating, writing and producing news for publications, social media and the City's website. Duties include writing, social media operation, and outreach. The specialist may occasionally oversee photo direction during shoots at events, collecting information for captions to be used on social media and for publications; Create visual concepts by hand or with computer software to communicate messages that inspire, inform, and engage target audiences; Excellent written communications, ability to modify and proof outside copywriters;

Social Media Management

Receive content from subject matter expert; curate content for social channels to meet regular posting standards; Update content on social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.); Actively monitor and update social media participation and monitor online reputation, making recommendations for enhancement.

Print Materials

Manage content development and dissemination of printed publications for education, development, and administration purposes; support the development and execution of identity and collateral materials for City initiatives; meet content deadlines based on production schedules.

Newsletters & Electronic Communications

Create content for newsletters (internal & external); provide internal e-communications support; manage all aspects of the weekly communication brochures; lead departmental efforts to remain up-to-date and effective in electronic communications

Writes, edits and contributes to the creation of marketing communication collateral and other platforms, including publications, newsletter, factsheets, flyer's, brochures, advertisements, presentations, handouts, web copy, visual graphics and displays, charts and other printed or digital materials.

Assists in developing materials and presentations; may also make presentations to internal and external audiences.

Researches and provides recommendations on new content for outreach and communications projects, as assigned; Carries out professional assignments in support of construction outreach, conservation, media outreach, and other City communication programs and projects;

Assists with planning meetings and events, including the management of invitation and contact list distributions.

Additional Functions:

Performs other related duties as required.
