The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is seeking a Public Relations Director. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this position will nurture an influencer network, increase awareness and develop an enviable PAFA image by developing and executing effective communication and media relations programs for both the School and the Museum. The Director will work across the institution with various stakeholders in order to establish a calendar of events and landmark opportunities for exposure, to achieve the business objectives of the organization; to increase reputation; to increase enrollment for the School’s programs; to boost giving and contributions; to increase attendance to the Museum and to support other revenue streams.

The Public Relations Director will be responsible for developing a media relations strategy to enhance the reputation of the institution in order to increase attendance to the Museum and enrollment to the School. He/she will be expected to secure high-level national and regional placements in print, broadcast and online media. This position will also be expected to execute upon a marketing communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics.

The Director will be responsible for coordinating all public relations activities within the school and museum, and will lead collaborative social media strategies to engage audiences across traditional and new media. He/she will have the ability to leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within arts and culture as well as the higher education media. Primary functions of this position will include managing media inquiries and interview requests; creating content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations; monitoring, analyzing and communicating PR results on a quarterly basis. He/she will evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising on an on-going basis. This role will need to build relationships with thought leaders to grow PAFA’s awareness, and maintain a keen understanding of arts & culture, as well as higher education trends affecting clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them.

 
Position Requirements

Qualified candidates will possess a BA in Marketing, Advertising, Communications or a related discipline; MA preferred. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the public relations field required. Candidates will have a proven track record of designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and national level. Candidates will also have a demonstrated ability to create strong relationships with both local and national media outlets. Experience in supporting institutional interviewees for both broadcast and print media interviews is a must. Qualified candidates will have exceptional writing and editing skills, as well strong collaborative skills.
