SUMMARY:

The Dental Sterilization Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all clinic dental equipment as well as dental operatories. This role is vital to the flow of the clinic, patient access and staff efficiency. This position requires a well-organized individual who is detail-oriented and self-motivated. Knowledge of sterilization procedures and use of equipment. Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations preferred.

 
Position Requirements

SUMMARY: 

The Dental Sterilization Technician is responsible for maintaining the sterilization of all clinic dental equipment as well as patient rooms.  Additional duties include keeping patient rooms stocked and following all OSHA compliance guidelines. Helping turn rooms around by cleaning between patients when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sterilizes and disinfects instruments; ensures clean instruments are always available for use.

  • Wraps equipment for autoclaving and operates autoclave correctly.

  • Mixes and prepares cleaning solutions according to manufactures guidelines.

  • Stocks sterilized equipment in proper areas for easy access by providers and support staff.

  • Prepares operatories between patient visits by cleaning and stocking in accordance with dentist’s practice and OSHA compliance guidelines

  • Keeps operatories, hallways, and other areas clean as required by OSHA compliance guidelines.

  • Does laundry and cleans kitchen daily.

  • Cleans and maintains air, water and EVac systems.

  • Does Spore checks weekly and changes traps bi-weekly.

  • Drain and sterilizers if out of the office more than two days.

  • Clean and maintain sterilizers bi-weekly.

  • Intake of all supply orders and stocking on shelves.

  • Verify that all instruments expiration dates are current, rotate instruments and sterilize if close to 6 month expiration date.

  • Adherence to the ODCHC attendance policy.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as designated by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team in order to communicate and/or solicit pertinent information to and from other team members and support team decisions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise sound and responsible judgment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal. Ability to establish constructive working relationships with all levels of management and employees in a staff of varied and diverse backgrounds. Ability to multi-task.

EDUCATION:

  • Experience working within dental clinic preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person, at normal volumes.

  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.

  • Good manual dexterity.

  • Ability to reach above shoulder-level, and to squat, bend, sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Repetitive motion--hands, arms and shoulders.

  • Ability to lift 25lbs and move up to 50 pounds.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation.

Wage Range Minimum starting wage of $15.11 per hour.
