About the Organization For over 70 years, The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region has helped people with intellectual and developmental disabilities build better lives one person at a time. We provide support services and advocacy to 400 adults and children and their families in Harford and Cecil Counties. The Arc supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to create lives that mirror yours and mine: students attending neighborhood schools, adults going to work and living in their own homes, and individuals enjoying the social and recreational opportunities in their communities. We are a private, non-profit local chapter of The Arc of Maryland and The Arc of The United States, the largest volunteer organization in the world devoted exclusively to improving the quality of life for all adults and children with developmental disabilities.

Description

Position Summary:

Coordinates community resources for individuals served, maintaining current knowledge of and providing technical assistance regarding housing vouchers, food nutrition program, alternative accounts, and other community resources. Coordinate presentations to staff and individuals regarding various resources, train Departmental Supervisors of PUF procedures, and maintain positive working relationships with key resource personnel and agency staff.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

In a manner consistent with supporting The Arc NCR Mission Statement the Resource and Benefits Coordinator - HV shall do the following:

Quality Support

  • Assist individuals served to effectively access, manage, coordinate and maintain records regarding benefits and community resources
  • Monitor benefits to ensure continuity and maximization of resources
  • Assist individuals to appeal decisions adversely affecting their benefits
  • Update individual records and agency database with information in a timely and thorough manner
  • Provide oversight and review of documents to ensure applications are completed accurately and in a timely manner for individuals to apply and or maintain for Food Nutrition Program, Housing benefits, Medicare Part D prescription coverage, and alternative accounts
  • Maintain regular contact with key resource personnel, staff and people we support to ensure maximum outcomes for individuals
  • Update individual records and resource database with information in a timely and thorough manner (i.e. Housing, Alternative Accounts, FS)
  • Work with Community Living and PS staff to locate and obtain accessible housing through various means such as vouchers, Habitat for Humanity, Senior Housing options, etc.
  • Obtain information on new housing and resource programs
  • Discard outdated housing, FS, and resource information as needed
  • Maintain a current database of each person's alternative accounts (i.e. MD Able, Trusts, and Burial)
  • Provide problem solving support to Community Living, PS, and Vocational department for the individuals served

Quality Team Members

  • Develop and maintain strong positive working relationships with community resource personnel, staff and people we support, including participation in multiple community committees and/or boards
  • Demonstrate proactive problem solving with staff and resource agency staff to overcome barriers and optimize benefits
  • Check in with key resource personnel, staff and people we support routinely to ensure awareness of possible upcoming opportunities
  • Work with Community Living and PS staff to develop strategies for obtaining additional Housing resources
  • Work with Property Manager to educate and encourage property owners to accept Housing Choice Vouchers
  • Maintain current and thorough knowledge of community resources and alternative accounts relevant to people with disabilities
  • Develop and maintain current 'library' of information related to community resources and alternative accounts

Financial Excellence

  • Transfer PUF balances more than the fixed cap monthly to Maryland Able Accounts of individuals and work cohesively with Community Living staff and individuals to ensure that the appropriate alternative account is chosen in accordance to their needs.
  • Maintain a current burial plan of individuals
  • Ensure housing redeterminations are completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Obtain information needed for documentation in a timely and thorough manner
  • Ensure documentation is accurate
  • Maintaining positive relationships with landlords
  • Provide technical assistance regarding community resources and alternative accounts to individuals served, agency personnel and Arc membership
