SUMMARY:

The Actuarial Analyst is responsible for assisting with contract negotiations, financial projections, analyses aimed at improving performance, pricing of dental and vision products, and generating and managing various reports. Work involves partnering with actuarial students and underwriting to forecast performance, generate actionable insights, and identify key results drivers to provide advice to senior management, sales/account managers, and financial services. The Actuary Analyst will also develop and maintain financial analytics related to overall underwriting, cost of care as well as administrative costs by Line of Business. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

  • Lead actuarial analysis and services in support of claims analysis, financial projections, and pricing/product strategy.
  • Balances growth and profitability goals to maximum results.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop and maintain financial analytics related to overall underwriting, cost of care as well as administrative costs by Line of Business and other appropriate measures setting assumptions, trends, and goals.
  • Develop the organization's premium rate structure through the forecasting of financial/statistical data in a manner which is actuarially sound and competitive in the marketplace.
  • Manages unpaid claims reserves and forecasting future trends.
  • Consults with the management team in support of renewal rate actions and quotes.
  • Coordinates and develops rating models and analytical tools on book of business.
  • Partners with sales team and rate development to support proposals and retention.
  • Price new benefit designs and product riders, recommend alternative solutions.
  • Assist with and participating in negotiations and presentations where appropriate.
  • Interact and coaching actuarial analysts and underwriters.
  • Prepare of state insurance bureau filings and communications, actuarial memorandums, responding to any objections and related analytical work.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of work experience with dental or health actuarial/underwriting functions.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), required
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), required
  • Strong technical skills required in Microsoft office, specifically advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel including macros, lookup tables, statistical functions and other data management functions is essential.
  • Understanding of database structures and reporting financial information, and the ability to manipulate and analyze data.
  • Knowledge of SQL (a plus).
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to work across different organizations and personalities.
