GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Program Associate, Congregational Granting supports efforts to ensure that the missional resources of the National Ministries United Church of Christ are granting with impact towards local congregations, spiritual communities and affiliated organizations. This position serves as a connector of communities towards resources, with attentiveness to relationships at every stage in the process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordination of all program grants available from the National Setting of the Church in collaboration with other ministry teams, included but not limited to: New and Renewing Spiritual Communities, and Neighbors in Need.
  • Provide thought leadership for strategy regarding the program grants for Congregations in the United Church of Christ, in partnership with the Team Leader
  • Development and administration of policies and procedures for handling grant requests, approvals and disbursements and administration.
  • Administer the grants from Justice and Local Church Ministries outwards towards affiliate organizations, including: Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM), Council for Racial and Ethnic Ministries (COREM), #GivingTuesday Distributions, Franklinton Center at Bricks
  • Cultivate relationships with the grantees and potential grantees, from pre-application to post-granting cycles
  • Connect congregations to each other and to relevant communities working with similar projects and ministry timelines
  • Create and maintain up-to-date digital platforms for a common application, as well as evaluation, and funding
  • Communicate with evaluators for each grant offered, equipping them to make choices based in equity and impact
  • Maintain records for grants that have been awarded
  • Prepare an annual outcome report on all grants awarded based on return on investment
  • Serve as the primary point person to the Pension Boards regarding the New Church Benefit Support Program, identifying eligible pastors, encouraging application, and reporting on their progress
  • Partner with the Center for Analytics, Research and Data (CARD) as needed to research trends of Christian expression in the United Church of Christ
  • With the Faith INFO team, serve as a connecting agent for congregations in need of assistance, recommending relevant congregational resources in Justice and Local Church Ministries, or Conferences/Associations, or other national/ecumenical ministries or consultants, where answers and support may be found
  • Develops and maintains professional and courteous relationships with UCC national and conference staff, community and religious partners and other constituents; serves as a positive role model by exemplifying values which are consistent with the United Church of Christ.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • A college degree or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.
  • A minimum of two years demonstrated grant and scholarship administration experience
  • Organized and exceptional attention to details
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in identifying opportunities and deliver results accordingly
  • Good analytical and presentation skills
  • Demonstrates significant understanding of and appreciation for UCC faith, polity, and practice of ministry.
  • Desire and sensitivity to working in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
  • Effective relation building capability
  • Ability to conceptualize and participate in development of print resources.
  • Skilled at writing, planning and strategizing
  • Proficient with computer skills and ease with adapting to new technology.
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the United States.
