This position is a full time, benefits eligible position that will be 40 hours per week. Hours of work will be Mon-Fri 3:30 pm-Midnight.

SUMMARY:

Under basic supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks to maintain a high standard of safety and sanitation throughout County facilities, grounds, and buildings. Duties may vary according to job assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sweeps, mops, waxes, and polishes hard surface floors.
  • Vacuums and shampoos carpeted floors.
  • Cleans restrooms; maintains restroom supplies.
  • Washes and spot-cleans windows.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down meetings; responsible for securing buildings.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment; organizes custodial supply room.
  • Picks up trash and debris from buildings and grounds; empties trash receptacles and recycle bins.
  • Responds to maintenance requests and work orders.
  • Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous maintenance or custodial experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of:

  • Custodial practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Appropriate chemical solutions and their proper use.
  • Proper use of safety equipment.

Knowledge of (Job Class Standard):

  • Safety policies, procedures, and practices for basic construction industry standards.
  • Inventory management methods and practices.
  • Personal protective equipment and proper use.
  • Equipment troubleshooting methods.
  • General maintenance practice and procedures.

Skill in:

  • Must speak, write and understand basic English.
  • Able to use both desktop and mobile devices to interact daily with company payroll software and departmental software (e.g. Cartegraph).
  • Google suite of products.

Skill in (Job Class Standard):

  • Organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks.
  • Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Microsoft Office Products.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Operating tools and equipment safely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed throughout assigned County buildings, grounds, and facilities. Requires moderate physical exertion and exposure to inclement weather conditions and potentially dangerous tools and cleaning products.

HIRING RANGE:

$16.44 to $19.32 per hour dependent on qualifications.
