About the Organization Hill Country Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Centers is a unit of local government and a not-for-profit, 501C provider of Mental Health and Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, Substance Abuse, and Veteran Peer Services throughout the greater Texas Hill Country Region. Hill Country MHDD Centers is designated to be the Mental Health Authority by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority by the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for a 19 County Service Area including: Bandera, Blanco, Comal, Edwards, Gillespie, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Llano, Mason, Medina, Menard, Real, Schleicher, Sutton, Uvalde and Val Verde Counties. With a Mission of Promoting Independence, Community Integration and Recovery, HCMHDD Centers operates (10) ten Mental Health Clinics, (8) Developmental Disability Centers and serving a population of over 630,349 consumers within 22,593 square miles.

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Centers strongly believes that every individual deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. At the present time, we are looking for a qualified candidate to fill the role of Registered Nurse (RN).

Under the general direction of the Clinic Director, the right candidate will be responsible for providing compassionate care and performing technical nursing functions within the scope of their license. Primary responsibility will be to administer medication as ordered by physician; maintain and document medical care inindividual records; monitor and evaluate health status of individuals and perform routine medical treatments. The RN will actively participate as a member of the Treatment Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in the individuals plan of care to ensure that he/she maintains an optimal level of wellness and aids him/her to develop to fullest potential.
  • Will document pertinent facts reflecting consumers heath care needs according to DADS Community Standards, HCS, TXHMLIVING and ACDD.
  • Participates directly in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment for the individuals.
  • in and contributes to seminars, workshops or meetings for professional growth, educational and improved communication.
  • Performs special assignments to facilitate unit operations.
  • Completes admission and ongoing assessment of individual’s nursing care needs per facility policy and procedure.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings routinely and assists with the development of the multidisciplinary plan of care. Implements and documents the provision of nursing interventions described in the care plan.
  • Provides patient and family education to individuals and families on medications; symptom management; health, safety, and infection control; facility rules; recovery principles; and addresses other consumer/family needs for education as identified.
  • Administers medications or supervises the administration of medication as ordered by the attending physician and in accordance with nursing care standards and facility policy/procedure.
  • Observes, oversees, and monitors the use use/implementation of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) interventions. Ensures that PMAB methods are implemented appropriately and safely per facility policy and procedure and that all PMAB interventions are documented per policy.
  • Participates and supports the facility safety, risk management, and infection control programs and follows facility procedures to maintain a safe treatment environment.
  • Uses a computer to communicate information, complete reports, and to record nursing assessment, care, and treatment services as required.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Nursing Degree (Associates Degree, Bachelor's degree, or Masters degree in Nursing)
  • License to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Registered Nurse License - Texas Board of Nursing in good standing
  • Well organized with excellent time management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with Data Entry
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Current Automobile Insurance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)Speaking
  • Prior work experience in mental health/psychiatric stetting within the last 5 years

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Able to push, pull, lift and / or carry over 20 pounds
  • Able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
  • Ability to provide CPR after obtaining Certification
  • Ability to demonstrate PMAB skills after successful completion of agency training curriculum
