The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) is a not-for-profit, independent certification organization whose primary purposes are to establish and monitor a national certification system, and to identify those counselors who have voluntarily sought and obtained board certification. The organizational mission is to advance counseling as the premier certification body of the profession with a vision of enhancing society worldwide through quality counseling. NBCC and Affiliates is comprised of three organizational affiliates: the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) and the NBCC Foundation (NBCC-F).

NBCC and Affiliates has operations and partnerships in 40 countries providing certification, training programs and public mental health services through institutes and residencies. Over 66,000 Board Certified Counselors serve the public and advance mental health efforts across the globe. With a portfolio of nine credentials related to professional counseling, mental health, addictions, human services and career development, NBCC and Affiliates seeks to expand the professional capacity of counselors and human service professionals. NBCC is focused specifically on credentialing, certification and quality assurance, while CCE focuses on providing education and training opportunities and leveraging credentials to best serve communities. Additionally, CCE provides organizational management services for associations, boards and other management clients. The NBCC Foundation engages in capacity building, seeking to expand access to mental health services in underserved and never-served communities and increase the accessibility of high quality professional development resources for counselors.

CREDENTIALING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE DIVISION

The Credentialing and Quality Assurance Division is responsible for managing the development, administration and ongoing evaluation of all certifications, credentials, ethics, assessments, and continuing education provider programs offered through NBCC and Affiliates. This Division is also responsible for the oversight of all accreditation requirements relative to key programs and for managing ancilliary processes necessary for assuring the rigor and integrity of credential and assessment programs.

The Division is comprised of five departments: Certification Services, Credentialing Services, Assessment Programs and Services, Ethics, and Continuing Education Provider Services. This Division is critical for the maintenance and administration of all credential and certification programs.

Responsibilities of the Vice President position include:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and collaborate effectively with other Vice Presidents, the CEO, COO and CLO.
  • Assign responsibilities, develop functional roles, and oversee operations of the Credentialing and Quality Assurance Division.
  • Provide administrative oversight for five departments:
    1. Certification Services
    2. Credentialing Services
    3. Assessment
    4. Ethics
    5. Continuing Educator Provider Services
  • Supervise implementation of the NBCC and Affiliates Strategic Plan relevant to the Credentialing and Quality Assurance Division
  • Manage the business operations of the Division
  • Develop, improve and implement financial tracking, budget implementation and oversight processes aligned with the Division's responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate management reports for the CEO, COO and Board of Directors for CCE and NBCC
  • Advise the Executive Leadership Team in accreditation and quality assurance matters
  • Develop and oversee policies and procedures to guide the work of the Division
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards relative to all programs housed within the Division
  • Lead efforts to ensure program compliance with accreditation standards
  • Participate in the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of the NBCC and Affiliates Strategic Plan
  • Provide organizational information and logistical support necessary for the Boards of Directors for NBCC and Affiliates to meet governance responsibilities
  • Work closely with the NBCC Board of Directors and the CCE Board of Directors to develop strategic plans for programs housed within the Division.
  • Implement strategic plans developed collaboratively with the Boards of Directors for NBCC and Affiliates.
  • Ensure that all division, departmental and program practices are aligned with the organizational vision, mission, bylaws and approved policies.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with key university and organizational partners.
  • Ensure that departments and programs are appropriately staffed within the confines of organizational resources.
  • Ensure procedures are implemented and maintained which enable sound fiscal management, accurate reporting, and reduce risk to the safety and stability of the organizational funds, physical assets and other property.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of division staff, recommend personnel actions such as hiring, training, rewarding, disciplining and terminating staff.
