Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Educate, inspire, and empower guests to be stewards of the Park through the active planning, preparation and implementation of interpretive programs, presentations and appropriate displays at Little Basin.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with the grammar and secondary school groups following an assessment of potential interest.
  • Recruit EE Interns for duties and assignments relative to their job description
  • Maintain facilities and indoor display cases that help with instruction, provide examples of local flora and fauna useful in the interpretive effort
  • Research curriculum sources including State Park Interpretive Rangers, Save the Redwoods League, Sempervirens and others.
  • Lead group and individual instruction as curriculum calls for specialist knowledge.
  • During schedule uses: Provide attending teachers and adult chaperones with orientation and advise as to their duties and responsibilities during any visit to Little Basin. Go over rules of facility with participants upon arrival. Emphasize the fragile nature of the environment and provide handouts that remind visitors about any harmful exposures or actions to avoid - safety orientation.
  • Organize and work with temporary food service personnel for group meals as required. Overnight presence may occasionally be required.
  • Work with GM and Maintenance staff to minimize the use of toxic or harmful chemicals in the housekeeping and maintenance of the concession facilities.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must be a college graduate with a degree in biology, environmental studies, or related major from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have minimum two years of experience as a teacher, either field or classroom will suffice.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation.
  • Must be 25 years or older.
  • Must be able to comfortably lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be a creative thinker with the ability to work both independently and with a team.

Preferred:

  • Teaching credential in the State of California
  • Fluency in a second language, Spanish preferred.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

The Incumbent will use various tools and equipment on a daily basis. Footwear required shall be a work boot or a high-quality leather shoe providing ankle support. No open toe sandals or flip flops are allowed on the job. The Incumbent will be knowledgeable in the safety practices and standards set by the Company, relative to the work environment he/she operates in. He/she will also make it a duty to assure that all co-workers are working with those same safety practices and standards.
