Specialist Counselor Turning Point

Job Summary:

The Specialist Counselor is responsible for providing high quality employment and vocational services and housing case management to participants living in Rising Oaks or Turning Point Transitional Housing Programs. The phases of employment services include: program intake, engagement, assessment, job development/job placement, job coaching, and follow-along supports. The Specialist Counselor develops, builds and maintains a database of employer contacts to match the participant to a position based on participant’s preferences and developmental needs. At least 65% of the work time for this position is to be focused on working with the youth who are interested in employment, both onsite and in the community, and in the community conducting job development with employers. In addition, the Specialist Counselor may also be responsible for providing support services related to educational needs, housing preparation, and/or independent living skills services when needed. This position will include networking with relevant community-based programs.

Hours are:

Sunday 8 am - 12:30 pm,

Monday 10 am - 6:30 pm,

Tuesday 10 am - 6:30 pm,

Must attend training once a month on the second Wednesday from 2:00 - 4:30 pm

Position Requirements



    1. B.A. Degree, or A.A. Degree or equivalent years of related work experience.
    2. Demonstrated cultural responsiveness in working with diverse families and communities.
    3. Demonstrated understanding of the developmental milestones of children, youth, or young adults to provide to provide care, treatment and services.
    4. Current California Driver’s License with a clean driving record or ability to obtain within 10 days after hire.
    5. Demonstrated ability to utilize de-escalation techniques that align with the trauma informed care model as part of intervention strategy for working with participants in crisis who are responding to triggers/stressors and/or demonstrating early indicators of distress.
    6. Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
    7. Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
    8. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
