The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. The Assistant Manager of Security is an outstanding opportunity to join the operations team in building infrastructure to ensure the safety and security of the visitors, staff, collections, building, and other assets of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Under the supervision of the Sr. Manager of Security, you will serve as backup to the Sr. Manager, oversee a team of security personnel and the electronic resources (access control, cameras, radios, etc.), and develop and implement safety and security programs.

Must be able to work a variable schedule to include weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours may change weekly due to museum events.

Responsibilities:

Security and Safety

  • Responsible for security and safety in galleries, theaters, retail spaces, and outdoor and other assembly areas.
  • Provides leadership in the area of security and safety to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, the collections, and other assets of the museum.
  • Assists with developing and managing the security team structure and hire and train security personnel.
  • Assists in leading the training of visitor services, theater, and other public-facing personnel in the areas of security and safety.
  • Assists with the security control room as well as maintenance and repairs of all security systems including the access control, cameras, house radios, and public safety BDA systems.

Emergency Planning and Response

  • Assists with implementation of a robust emergency preparedness and response program to prepare for a variety of possible scenarios including earthquakes, fire, active shooter, civil unrest, HazMat, etc.
  • Participates in conducting annual drills in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Assists with purchasing, distribution, and maintenance of emergency supplies.

Events and Public Programs

  • Provides assistance with scheduling staff for major public programs and events to ensure public safety.
  • Assists in developing and implementing crowd control procedures for large gatherings and hire and coordinate supplemental security personnel from third-party vendors when required.

 
Position Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in a security leadership position with a museum, event or public performance venue, or similar institution.
  • Experience managing and maintaining access control and CCTV systems.
  • Knowledge of Cal-OSHA regulations, fire department regulations, and other health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of the law related to security operations in public facilities in California.
  • Knowledge maintenance and operation of security systems.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
