Job Summary

The Specialist, Employee Benefits and HR Systems, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Pirates employee benefits plans and effectuating quality control processes within the Pirates' human resources systems. The employee must have experience with employee benefits compliance-related topics, confidence in dealing with members of the Pirates organization, and a keen eye for detail in quality controlling the Pirates human resources-related data.

Job Responsibilities

Primary

  1. Serve as the day-to-day resource for Pirates personnel, including front office personnel, baseball operations personnel, and players, regarding the Pirates' employee benefit offerings, including but not limited to, meeting with newly hired personnel to review their benefits, communicating open enrollment information and managing the process, answering day-to-day benefits-related questions, and approving benefit changes.
  2. Assist with managing the Pirates 401k, non-qualified defined contribution plan, major medical plans, dental, vision, life insurance and other employer-sponsored benefit plans.
  3. Coordinate all COBRA-related notifications and administration on behalf of the Pirates.
  4. Serve as a primary contact for insurance brokers and third party benefits consultants regarding the Pirates employee benefit plans.
  5. Oversee and execute the Pirates wellness program for front office employees, including but not limited to, planning for and execution of the Club's wellness fairs, processing wellness-program related credits and Pirates' contributions, communicating wellness-related information, and proactively assessing opportunities for additional wellness-initiatives.
  6. Remain up-to-date on employee benefits compliance topics and proactively bring new ideas or issues to the attention of the VP, Human Resources & Business Affairs.
  7. Develop data flow roadmap between systems, interface with Pirates personnel and vendors on efficient data flow, and maintain a process for auditing data in the Pirates HRIS, time and attendance, scheduling, and payroll systems to ensure accuracy of information and efficient operations of systems.
  8. Manage the Pirates' company car program, including but not limited to, all car-insurance related coordination and day-to-day management of the Pirates' leased fleet vehicles, company-owned vehicles, and corporate partnership-related vehicles.
  9. Assist with payroll-related data uploads, required compliance reporting, and auditing.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Human Resources & Business Affairs.

Secondary

  1. Assist in benefits-related invoice reconciliation and invoice file submissions as assigned.
  2. Provide data and pertinent information regarding benefit plan analysis and recommendations.
  3. Represent the Human Resources Department as designated for certain Club initiatives and programs.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least four (4) years of employee benefits-related experience
  • Prior work in human resources-related electronic systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications

Desired:

  • Paralegal degree and/or Employee Benefits Certification (“CEBS”) designation
  • Experience in working with a major league sports team with a strong preference for a Major League Baseball Team
  • Event execution experience
  • Fluency in Spanish
